Rock Out Karaoke in San Diego, CA: Karaoke With A Live Band

You'll never end up singing alone. Pacific Beach's 710 Beach Club, Rock Out's main performance venue (710 Garnet Ave, San Diego, CA 92109 (61-957-8030), has large screens everywhere so no one misses a word. So even if you're a halfway decent belter, the more-than-supportive audience will fill in. With up to seven accomplished musicians rotating in and out, the Rock Out Karaoke team never seems to be short on willing singers, no matter anyone's talent level or preferred genre.

Every song they know (nearly 300 and counting) is inspired to get the crowd going. From Garth Brooks' Friends in Low Places to Guns N' Roses Welcome to the Jungle to Outkast's Hey Ya!, Rock Out Karaoke can play almost ANY genre! American Idol judge/songwriter Kara DioGuardi has been on stage with them singing You Oughta Know. Some of the regular singers include a married couple and their adult daughter, making the Rock Out Karaoke experience a family affair, to say the least.

The 710 Beach Club is a Chicago style bar and I happened to show up on a night where the Bears won a game right before Rock Out Karaoke started. Needless to say the 710 Beach Club harnessed that energy and kept nearly 100-plus Bears fans in the crowd and singing for half the night! There were still dozens of people by the time Rock Out Karaoke stopped playing- four hours later. The staff is extra attentive and treated me like a regular, even though I wasn't wearing any Chicago sports team gear. I even saw a head-to-toe Dolphins fan, the Bears' victim that night, get served just like everyone else.

One downside to the Rock Out Karaoke experience is that if you really enjoyed your first time on stage, chances are you won't be going again the same night. The waiting list can get 30 to 40 songs deep and it circulates an hour before show time! But with the sheer energy from the band, you'll be singing just as much in the audience as you will on stage. Also, if you've never sang with a band, the pressure to stay on key (and on time) is much greater because there are additional human beings trying to keep up with you. Fortunately the Rock Out team is full of accomplished musicians that tend to know how to adjust to their singers versus trying to make the singers fit in to them. And that's what makes everyone want to rock out!
