When Guitar Hero hit the gaming scene people who did not even play or own a console rushed to buy one to play the game. It seemed less nerdy than the traditional RPG and MMORPG's most gamers were addicted to. Not to mention how cool it feels to smoke a song on expert in front of your friends and feel like a true "Guitar Hero." The Innovative thinkers at Harmonix, the people who helped with the first 2 Guitar Hero's decided to step it up to a new level. Thus, Rockband was born....
For those who have no clue what Guitar Hero or Rockband are about here is a quick lesson:
Basically you play instruments, but they only look like instruments, instead of strings or drums there are buttons and drum pads.
In order to play you must his the corresponding buttons the way they appear on the screen. (They appear in measures and if you feel like it you can actually count the notes in the measure.)
Guitar Hero is just as it sounds you have one guitar and you rock solo or buy more guitars and play bass. However, Rockband comes with a drum set, guitar, and microphone. The controller for Guitar Hero also works with Rockband so if you own that controller it will be compatible with Rockband. (Note: This does not work the other way around.)
Here is the catch: Rockband costs a whopping $180! This sounds like a big chunk of money for one game but think about the bright side, Harmonix will probably come out with a Rockband 2,3, and so on. So you already have the equipment you just need to buy the game. If you did as I did and purchase it for Xbox360 then you will be disappointed with all the cords. But if you have not purchased it yet wait until February when they come out with the wireless edition.
Rockband features songs from Weezer, Blue Oyster Cult, Bon Jovi, Metallica, The Who, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, and so many more. They also have weekly downloads to add to your song collections. Beware though, these cost money (of course) so be prepared to buy Microsoft points because they release some great songs including a Queens of the Stoneage pack, The Police Pack, A punk pack and many others added weekly.
Many people said they thought Rockband was easier than Guitar Hero. Think about this: Guitar Hero is on its 3rd game, when Rockband comes out with a 2nd it will be much harder, rest assured. People have not really said much about the awesome graphics on Rockband , which I find surprising. Compared to Guitar Hero the options are much more intricate and you can personalize your character.
So if you think you are a rockstar get your friends to pool in some money and get together to start rockin'!
