Bret Michaels in Critical Condition Following Brain Hemorrhage

Poison frontman Bret Michaels remains in critical condition Saturday morning after suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage that landed him in a Los Angeles hospital late Thursday night.

Bret Michaels, 47, had complained of a severe headache and, according to People magazine's website, was rushed to intensive care. Doctor's discovered the bleed at the base of the rocker's brain stem.

Michaels recently had an emergency appendectomy in San Antonio, Texas where he had been scheduled to perform at Sea World.

According to a statement on BretMichaels.com, "There are several incorrect reports on Bret's condition. Bret remains in critical condition at an undisclosed location. Further tests are being ran and information will be updated in the coming days."

Risk Factors Include:

Smoking, high blood pressure, and excessive alcohol use increase the risk of having a subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Symptoms of Subarchnoid Hemorrhage:

The main symptom of subarachnoid hemorrhage is a severe headache that comes on suddenly with the pain worse near the back of the head. Someone suffering from subarachnoid hemorrhage may feel a popping or snapping sensation in their head. According to Google Health, patients have described the headache as the worst headache ever.

In addition to headache, someone suffering from subarchnoid hemorrhage may also experience decreased consciousness, nausea and vomiting, sensitivity to light, stiff neck, seizure, and vision problems (double vision and blind spots for example).

Recovery following Subarchnoid Hemorrhage:

It is possible to recover from subarachnoid hemorrhage but it depends on several factors which include the extent and location of the bleed and whether there are other complications such as stroke, seizures, and complications of surgery.

Bret Michaels is best known as the lead singer of the glam-rock band Poison. Most recently, he was looking for love on VH1's Rock of Love for three seasons and Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice.

According to CBS News, Trump said in a statement Friday, "He's a great competitor and champion, and I hope he will be fine."

More information on Bret Michaels condition will be posted as it becomes available.

He also suffers from Type 1 Diabetes. I don't know if that is a risk factor coupled with his surgery. I hope he recovers.
