Rocking the House of Westbury

Melissa R. Mendelson
A beautiful summer night
was set to shine,
and shine it did
with a sea of brilliant faces
and rising hearts
carried away by the beauty
that we call music.
Talent ignited
across strings of an acoustic guitar,
and a young man sang
his heart and soul away,
forever touching lives
of those he loved
and those that would never forget
that they saw a new legend rise.
And the call of legends
was why we were here
to cherish the love,
the dedication,
and the beauty
of a man known
as Kenny Loggins.
The night rocked away
as his fingers strummed across
the acoustic and electric guitars,
and hearts sang and burst.
Arms waved in the air,
and love was high,
washing all the world's pain
away,
and we
remembered.
No more were we old but young,
alive,
and we sang.
We sang,
we cheered,
and we breathed.
And his voice carried us away,
striking the chords
to our heart and soul,
and happiness shined
across the sea of eyes
captivated by legends.
And my father smiled,
happiness shining in his eyes,
and washing his pain away,
and I smiled.
Tonight
was set to shine,
and shine it did,
touching those rising across the wings
of legends
that rocked the house of Westbury.
