Rockman High Gravity Lager: An Interesting Beer

Beth Benson
It was last fall when I discovered this interesting beer. I, my boyfriend, and two of his guy friends were all out tail-gating before a concert. We have stopped at the beer distributor prior to our get together, and his friend has spotted what was labeled as a beer that was also an energy drink. It was cheap, about $10 for a case of 12, so the guys grabbed it up.

Our friend Bill was the first to be the adventurous one and try this newfound beer. Well, after about three or four drinks, the Rockman was quickly projected onto the pavement. So far one of us determined it was a bad idea. Our other friend Nick was the second adventurer. He drank it in disgust, but needless to say he still drank it. My boyfriend Mike, was next up... he drank it as well, involuntarily cringing throughout the entire can.

Now, I'm not a beer person, unless your talking about my boyfriend, whose last name is Beres, however, I decided to take the challenge and drink a Rockman. I didn't vomit, I didn't cringe, and I wasn't disgusted. It was actually pretty good, considering that it was a beer. It had a heavy context to it and tasted more along the lines of a Rockstar energy drink more than a beer. The beer taste seemed to be hidden very well underneath the caffeine and sugar levels.

Rockman comes in a convenient, "bet you can't drink it all" 24 oz. can and is brewed by Upper Canada Brewing Company. The color is more yellow with a brownish tint. When you first pop open the can you are met with the smell of sweet fruit and beer. Being a lager type beer means that this potent brew was stored in barrels for several weeks or longer before being served or distributed. Rockman is also considered to be a Malt Liquor.

Malt Liquor is considered to be a strong lager, and often there is sugar added to the malt to boost the beer's strength in alcoholic content. The taste is normally said to have a bitter taste, however Rockman is not bitter at all! You can invest in buying this energy beer all year round and its alcohol by volume is about 8%.

The aftereffects of Rockman, if you can tolerate to ingest a can, will range from stomach ache, to migraine headache, to continuous head in the toilet.

Ladies and gentleman, try this malt alcoholic beverage at your own risk!
