The product consists of a tray with a special cable connector that plugs into your iPod. The tray fits in your mouth and the music you are playing will come through the tray. That is, the music will be in your mouth. Supposedly you put the included peroxide strips in the tray before inserting it in your mouth. Then you connect your iPod and crank the tunes! According to Professor Bocelli the soundwaves collide with the molecules in the strips thus kicking off a reaction that actually, over time, whitens your teeth. Even though the adapter allows for you to still have earbuds in your ears, you can control the volume going to the earbuds and the volume going to the mouth tray separately. So you can really crank the music going to your teeth (which increases the whitening effect) and still keep the music going to your ears at a comfortable level.
As explained by the video at RockMyTeeth.com, in order for the molecules of peroxide to effectively penetrate the enamel of your teeth and get to where the real staining problem is, energy is required. The best type of energy for moving and affecting matter, according to the video demonstration, is sound. But not just any sound will do, oh no! White noise and other such "racket" is random energy and can not properly penetrate the enamel. However organized musical patterns will create energy that will move matter (i.e. the peroxide molecules) in a forward motion. In this way the peroxide can move through the porous enamel and get to the dentin, the stained part of your teeth.
If you are sitting and reading this with a look of incredulity, then you are not alone. I am not so sure I am ready to accept Professor Bocelli's claims. It is going to take more than a computer-generated, cartoon commercial to make me think that blaring Black Sabbath or Beethoven into my mouth is going to whiten my teeth. My guess is that this product will never see mainstream adoption. Then again, we must not forget The Clapper.
