Rod Stewart Still Rocks After All These Years

This Rock and Roll Hero Finds Oldies Still Rule

Baby boomer rock and roll idol Rod Stewart is still rocking after all of these years. He has found a niche in the old -time music that our parents and some of us grew up with. Stewart 62, still has the desire to write new rock and roll hits. Mr. Stewart has evolved with the times that have found many ex-rock and roll super stars floundering in the dust beyond rememberance.

Stewart has released a new album with the direction of guru, industry great Clive Davis, called, "Still the Same Great Classics of Our Time". Critics say that the title of the new album is debatable, John Waite's "Missing You," and Bonnie Tyler's "It's a Heartache" are classics but it hardly seems to matter to any fans of Rod Stewart. Pople just can't seem to get enough of the tousle-haired blonde singer. In France, "Still the Same" has sold more copies than all four previous "Song Books"collection combined. In the five months since the newer album's release it has been steadily approaching the million dollar mark. Stewart's "Still the Same" album is the first rock record to top the charts since 1978 when "Blondes Have More Fun" and the hit cut, "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" made the top ten.

Roderick David Stewart was born on January 10, 1945 in London, England. He originally apprenticed with The Brentwood Football Club as a soccer player. He decided that it was not for him and began to tour with folksinger Wizz Jones in the early 60's. He performed with various other groups unsuccessfully and was deported at one point from Spain for vagrancy. He then returned to England where he joined Birmingham, a group that did R&B. He then joined Jimmy Powell and The Five Dimensions, as a vocalist and harmonica player. Stewart eventually found and joined The Jeff Beck Group.

Stewart released his first solo album originally called "An Old Raincoat Won't Let You Down". The title was changed to "The Rod Stewart Album". Stewart was on his way. In 1978 "Blondes Have More Fun" came out and his first hit "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" was born. He appeared in a concert on MTV Unplugged and in 1993 topped the charts with "Have I Told You Lately." Stewart claims that his "American Song Book" collection is the only one he regularly listens to.

Rod Stewart married Alana Hamilton, ex-wife of movie star Gearge Hamilton they remained married from 1979-1984. His second marriage was to top model Rachel Hunter from 1990 through 2006. He is divorced and recently engaged to model, Penny Lancaster. They share a son who was born on November 27, 2005. They plan to marry later this year. Rod Stewart is the father of seven children.

Mr. Stewart has had more than 250 million albums sold world-wide with 62 hit singles in the Top Ten. Stewart was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. Rod Stewart claims, he is just a "Scottish Rock Singer." We don't care what he calls himself. We just like to listen to him.

You know, his son is trying to make it in the industry too. I saw something about it on Reality Remix last night.

62? Nah, can't be. I didn't like all Rod Stewart's songs, but quite of my favorite all time rock songs have his name on them. He could remake old Motown songs that sounded as good as the originals. A great rocker. Great article.

Great stuff! I remember "Tonight's The Night", when radio stations edited out the one line "Spread your wings and let me come inside" because they said it was "too suggestive". The FCC had stations splice in a second time the line "Ooh baby don't you hesitate" in its place to make the song "radio friendly". How times have changed!
