I have previously written an article about Parents Who Murder Their Children. Today the news in my own town thankfully was not murder but still unbelievable and hard to read. I have read and heard about many cases of child abuse and neglect and each one rips at my heart.

The one in the news today that happened in my town is gut wrenching. Pike County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home on Red Bridge Road, near the town of Idaho in Pike county Ohio. Deputies found a 6 week old infant with what appeared to be multiple bite marks. Doctors at Nationwide Children's Hospital said the bites are consistent with the bites of rodents. The doctors added the bites appeared to have occurred over a long period of time.

The worst bites were on the infant's left foot and back, but were found all over the child's body. The Sherriff said two of the girl's toes had to be removed.

Deputies arrested the mother's live-in boyfriend and charged him with child endangering, obstructing official business, and tampering with evidence. Other charges against other individuals are possible. To read more visit WKKJ.

I cannot imagine what parent or even visitors to the home would let something like this happen and continue to happen. I can see where a home infested with rodents could end up biting a child, but it looks like once this happened one time it would never be allowed to happen again, especially to the degree that a 6 week old little baby would have to have their toes removed.

We as parents are supposed to protect and love our children. We are supposed to look out for them and see that they are well taken care of. They did not ask to be brought into this world and they sure didn't ask to be neglected and abused. More people need to get involved and reports cases of abuse and/or neglect. Someone needs to protect the innocent children.

Maybe if someone would have got involved sooner than this little girl would not have lost her toes and experienced such immense pain. Just think for a minute. Imagine an animal biting on you over and over again and you are not able to stop it and no one will help you. Think of the pain to your body, your mind and your soul. Now imagine you are a little baby. You are supposed to have parents there to protect and love you; this little girl experienced something she should have never had to go through. Just imagine when she gets older and asks "What happened to my toes?" I just pray some loving and caring person is there to let her know that something bad may have happened at one time but it will never again happen and that she is now loved and protected like she should have been all along.

That is just awful. Kind of messed up though that the mother isn't being charged, as far as I"m concerned she is just as guilty as the boyfriend..

I was born and raised in Adams County, Ohio. White trash is still white trash, I guess. Where were child protective services?

The mother of the baby is only 17 years old. Don't know for sure if it is true, but heard she has two other children. Those are supposedly the other two children that was also removed from the home by Children's Services. So far the mother has not been charged.
