Roger Federer and Andy Murray Will Both Win in Rafael Nadal's Withdraw from Wimbledon 2009

A Roger Federer and Andy Murray Wimbledon 2009 is One Step Closer

Richard McDuff
On Friday, June 19 2009, Rafael Nadal announced that he would not play in the 2009 Wimbledon Grand Slam . While Wimbledon fans were devastated because they would not see a repeat of the Wimbledon 2008 tennis finals, probably one of the best finals, if not the best tennis final in Wimbledon history. A game that was played for 4 hours and 48 minutes. Rafael Nadal's received treatment (after losing the French Open) at Barcelona for his knees where "he was diagnosed with tendinitis in both quadriceps tendons as well as a small amount of fluid on the kneecaps."

Rafael Nadal's withdraw from the Wimbledon Grand Slam has to make both Roger Federer and Andy Murray feel better. Andy Murray no longer has to worry about playing Rafael Nadal on the top side of the draw, which increases his chances of going onto the finals. This has been an excellent year for Andy Murray. He has gained 2180 points since January 1st 2009 and is only 1390 points behind #2 ranked Roger Federer, who has only increased his ranking points by 10 points since January 1st 2009. The only feasible player that could challenge Andy Murray on his side of the draw is Juan Martin Del Potro, ranked #5 who has gained 1840 points since January 1st. As of June 15th 2009 Andy Murray has 9,230 ranking points to Juan Martin Del Potro's 5730. Unless there is total breakdown in Andy Murray's tennis he should come out of the top draw a winner.

At the Wimbledon Grand Slam Roger Federer's should be nipping on the heels of Rafael Nadal's #1 Ranking, or Federer can reclaim the #1 seed title from Rafael Nadal if Federer wins the Wimbledon tennis match. Nadal will lose points for not playing in Wimbledon. If Andy Murray wins the Wimbledon Grand Slam he could be #1 ranked if certain conditions exist, which I will not go into, because that is enough information for another article. The only person that can really determine whether Roger does not come out of the bottom side of the draw will be Novak Djokovic ranked #4, who has lost 2730 points since January 1st 2009, and has withdrawn from yet another Grand Slam tournament in 2009, the Australian Open for a variety of ailments, ie heat exhaustion, muscle cramps, and soreness.

While Andy Murray has beaten Roger Federer on a couple of occasions, Roger Federer's technical mastery will still be too much for Andy Murray to overcome. I see Roger Federer as the Wimbledon Grand Slam winner and #1 seed on July 6th 2009. The only person that could have beat Federer at Wimbledon was Nadal and he won't be there. Roger Federer pulls his game up a notch during Grand Slam matches, and a 15th Grand Slam title seems a certainty.
