Roger Federer Wants to Play a Healthy Rafael Nadal in the 2009 US Open Grand Slam
Rafael Nadal Has Not Been a Force at the US Open
Rafael Nadal has never won the US Open, he has never even got beyond the semi-finals at the US Open. The way they have the draws set up in Tennis, chances are Rafael Nadal will have to get past a rejuvenated Andy Roddick before he would play Roger Federer. Rafael Nadal's strengths are his agility and quickness. He would have to be able to return the 130+ mph serves of an Andy Roddick, and beat Roddick on the volleys. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal games were wonderful to watch because of the lengthy volleys There were not that many volleys between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick it was more of a serving clinic. Roger Federer had 50+ aces, showing a weakness in Andy Roddick's game, the difficulty of returning serves while Andy Roddick had 30+ Aces.
It will also be interesting to see how healthy Rafael Nadal is when he returns. Tendentious is difficult to get over for any athlete, let alone a tennis player, but with a three month layoff I am sure that Nadal will be up to the challenge of playing the US Open.
There are 6 elite players in tennis, which makes the winning of the US Open more competitive, even though Novak Djokovic seems to be having a rough 2009. The most important players that will be at the US Open will be Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Juan Martin Del Potro and Andy Roddick.
After Wimbedon Andy Roddick is showing the tennis world that he is a force to reckon with. Will he be able to win the big one in his home country? Will we be witnessing another Wimbledon Final with Roger Federer and Andy Roddick at the US Open? Roddick won the 2003 US Open, and he lost the 2006 US Open to Roger Federer. Will Roddick be able to win the US Open Grand Slam again?
Roger Federer has won five consecutive US Opens, and he has also defeated five different players in the US Open finals - Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agasi, Andy Roddick, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. Of course he would love to face Rafael Nadal in the US Open, but chances are Federer won't, there are too many obstacles in Nadal's way.

Post a CommentNice analysis of the field going into the US Open. We'll know a lot more after the Rogers Cup in Montreal. Curious to see what kind of shape Nadal will be in.
