Rogue Wave's Descended like Vultures: A Review

Paul Faith
Overall: A very strong album by Rogue Wave, Descended Like Vultures delivers catchy songs with sometimes beautiful, urethral music, and other times acoustic simplicity. I'll break it down song by song.

Bird On A Wire: A great song to start off the album. Arguably the best song on the album besides California featured later. The Chorus lifts the listener into a bliss-like state, and it's lyrical quality doesn't disappoint. 10/10

Publish My Love: A great follow up to Bird On A Wire, this song is also one of the strongest on the album. Certainly one of the catchiest songs on Descended Like Vultures. One will find that they are singing the song in their head later that day: almost guaranteed. 9/10

Salesman At The Day Of The Parade: A strong song with beautiful, simple guitar. Really shows off lead singer Zack Rogue's voice. 8/10

Catform: A good upbeat song to follow Salesman. Almost haunting music at times, and the song culminates at the end with a spectacular outro. 8/10

Love's Lost Guarantee: A fair song near the middle of the album. Highlight of the song is near the middle where it is broken up by a striking guitar segment before a return to the catchy chorus. 7/10

10:1: Another fair song in the middle of Descended Like Vultures, 10:1, shows off Rogue Wave's unique sense of style and willingness to experiment. 7/10

California: A truly fantastic song, and certainly the best on the album, rivaled only by Bird On A Wire. Featuring an acoustic guitar intro this song has a catchy melody with beautiful, poetic lyrics. 10/10

Are You On My Side: Probably the weakest song on the album, but still a good tune. Zack Rogue practically whispers during the verse, but this track again features some skilled guitar playing. 6/10

Medicine Ball: Short but a great track. Features great acoustic guitar and shows off Rogue Wave's unique voice. An instantly catchy song, I wish this song was longer; the last really great track on the album. 9/10

You: A good song, but certainly a little slow. The song really takes off at the end, as it does feature an excellent outro. 6/10

Temporary: A good song to end the album. Slow with meaningful lyrics, the listener is left with Zack Rogue's voice and lovely acoustic guitar echoing in their head. 8/10

Final Thoughts: The album starts off very strong and seems to taper off towards the end. But overall, there is really not a bad song on the album. Bird On A Wire and California are Descended Like Vultures' best songs. But the album contains many other memorable songs such as Publish My Love, Catform, and Medicine Ball. Overall: another excellent album by Rogue Wave. 8/10
