Roland Tahini

Tahini is tahini, right? It is all made out of one ingredient sesame seeds. So, they must all be the same. That is what I thought. How could a one ingredient product be different from one another?

I thought they were all the same until I bought Roland Tahini. I purchased Roland tahini from Amazon.com for $20.53, through their Subscribe & Save program, for a pack of 4, 16 ounce jars. Tahini is a staple in my house so 4 jars would easily be used long before than expire.

In my experience tahini has a slight tendency to be bitter. It is something I have come to accept when buying tahini. That is the nature of tahini. Though, the Roland Tahini has no bitterness. In fact it has a slight saltiness that really adds to the flavor but says it is 100% sesame seeds. There is nothing on the container that list salt as an ingredient.

I know growing conditions affect all plants, vegetable, seeds or grains. The soil, nutrients, etcetera all affect the taste of the plant. Roland tahini is not organic, sadly, but the salty, smooth, nutty taste is quite different than most tahini products I have purchased. And is has almost no bitterness.

I am more than impressed with this tahini product and will say it is so far the best of all brands I have tried so far in all my many years of using tahini. I made a mistake after I ran out of Roland tahini and bought a cheaper brand of tahini, not really noticing at the time how different this brand was. The cheaper brand was bitter and very different. That is what I get for trying to save a few dollars.

The tahini comes in a plastic jar. It is smooth and it has very little oil separation. All I have to do is shake it up a little before I first open it and it is good to go for every use after.

I've tried many brands of tahini and this is the first brand that I plan to look for when I buy tahini and not care that it cost a little more. I really wish the Roland tahini was organic. That just might make it perfect. If you have had a bad experience with tahini in the past you might want to give Roland's tahini a try.
