Roll Your Own

A lot of tradition has been lost in cigarette smoking. People have almost forgotten what it is like to roll your own cigarettes. Everyone is so used to the pack of Malboro and Newports that they forget one of the most traditional smoking routines man has owned. Not only is this bad for appreciating the gift tobacco brings, but it's really worse for your health smoking prerolled cigarettes. Not that smoking tobacco in any form is good for your health.

Besides pipe tobacco, rolling your own cigarettes is the most traditional way of smoking tobacco. People rolled their own up into their own size preference for many years before tobacco companies took over. In many ways it is a forgotten art. The rolling is somewhat of a stress reliever and makes one appreciate the smoking session even more. The best part is that you can generally find a lot of different rolling tobaccos with no additives. The only thing you are smoking is literally straight tobacco.

Economically, it only makes sense to smoke rolling tobacco rather than pay the price for the packs. One pack of rolling tobacco will costs between 3 and 5 bucks and will have at least 75 big cigarettes. Usually you get more than that from a pack however. Now the packs of Malboro and such you get about 1/3 of that for the same price. The advantages seem endless. The negatives are pretty much the same as any tobacco smoking. Lung cancer, throat cancer, and all the other bad stuff that can come. But if you're gonna smoke anyway, it only seems reasonable to lay the packs down.

The fact is nicotine is an addictive drug. It is one of the few that our country allows free use for adults without any regulations for moderation. It is anyone's choice who is of age whether to smoke or not. I personally was against it a lot until the last few weeks. I can tell its addictive, but its something to do while I'm bored. I don't understand why more drugs aren't legalized in America, but until then I will continue to exercise my right to smoke tobacco as long as I can!

Nice article! But I don't envy your desire to smoke. I've known people who had lung cancer and believe me, it's no picnic. One person had a cancerous tumor in his throat that threatened to close his air passage. I gave up smoking 20 years ago and I won't start again.

Yes, nicotine is very addictive because I used to smoke cigarettes more than 14 years ago. I don't wish to start up that old habit again. Nice article though.
