"Rolling In the Deep" By Adele is a Song that Speaks to Anyone that Has Had Their Heart Broken

Kimberly Cummings
The haunting lyrics of Adele's song "Rolling in the Deep" speaks directly to my soul. Recently I had the misfortune of meeting someone that took advantage of me. Not only did they lie consistently in order to get what they wanted, but in the end they slipped away into the night just as easily as they had surfaced a couple of months before. Every-time I listen to the song the emotions I have felt, such as the utter dismay I have for this individual comes roaring back in vivid detail.

The lyrics describe a woman who has not only had her heart broken by someone she dearly cared for but they also explain how angry she is with how she was done by them. The lyrics of "a fire starting in her heart, reaching a fever pitch", literally describes how painfully angry most anyone will get when they have been severely wronged by someone. As well as how its "bringing her out of the dark" by allowing the anger to finally surface. The words "finally I can see you crystal clear" is exactly what I have come to realize in my own situation. At some point you have to see the person for who they really are, no matter how hard it is to face that you've been used.

The lyrics "go 'head and sell me out and I'll lay your shit bare" and "don't underestimate the things that I will do" also ring true to how most people feel, including myself when someone has burnt you in such a way that you have to re-examine everything you know about them and their own misgivings they may not want exposed for all to see.

Of course with every feeling of anger there also lies those feelings of hurt, still breaking from within ones soul. The lyrics of "the scars of your love remind me of us" and "they keep me thinking that we almost had it all" speaks to how deeply this woman was hurt and how most anyone feels when someone they've cared for leaves. How painful it is when their heart feels trampled on and crushed. As well as when the lyrics describe, "you had my heart inside of your hands, and you played it to the beat".

The lyrics also tell how she has "no story to be told, but I've heard one of you and I'm gonna make your head burn". In my own selfish way I have turned these words into a battle cry just as the lyrics, "throw your soul through every open door" and "count your blessings to find what you look for". Therefore in someway you "reap just what you sow", which has been an old saying heard throughout the years that people get in the end what is coming to them. Just as I do believe with all my heart that for every heart broken and for every misgiving you do to someone there comes a time when you must pay the piper.
