Rolling Hills Casino Review

David Funk
Last August, I was sent to work in Orland, California while on job assignment. Orland is almost two hours north of Sacramento which was the closest airport there. They put us in a hotel there in Corning which was just a few minutes away from the location we worked at. Our crew passed Rolling Hills Casino on I-5 everyday going to and from the job site, and we all decided to go one night. Actually, me and another one of my co-workers went more than once.

Rolling Hills Casino has over 800 slot machines and plenty of poker and blackjack tables to play at, too. You can also stay at the Vagabond Inn or Ramada Inn and Suites for your convenience if you're in the area. They've also got an RV Park as well Shasta Club, Pet Day Care, and Arcade.

The casino was being built in 2000 after the Paskenta Band Tribe had purchased 2000 acres of land where the casino is located. The tribe has used revenue earned at the casino to help other Tribal members out in the hopes of turning their lives for the better.

Anyway, four of us went to Rolling Hills Casino on a Monday evening after work and there wasn't a lot of people at first. After playing the Wheel of Fortune slots, me and my co-worker named Kevin checked out the buffet at the casino. We got plenty to eat, then went back to checking out some more slots to play.

One of our construction guys named Dale continued to try his luck at the blackjack tables while the other one named Jose stuck with the slots. Kevin and I played slots for a little while until I noticed Jose had stood up and waited for a staff member to help him.

As it turned out, Jose played one of the Diamond slot games that they had and won $4,000 at it! So Kevin and I as well as some others stopped to see it for themselves that he won. What I liked about that is that Jose was given the option of having the taxes taken out of winnings right then and there, and that's what he did. All told, he still took over $3,000. He gave me and Kevin $100 a piece. I played a little while longer, but didn't win anything. But Jose winning that money was the talk the next day at the job site.

My review:

The bad: The casino is easy to locate, but it is a good drive away from the nearest airport which is in Sacramento. Unless you have family or work near there, then this could be a problem especially with how I-5 can be at times. Corning is a small city with not a lot there otherwise to see, but that is what one can expect in a small place. The Buffet can get really backed up on some nights(like I had happen once), so you may want to eat plenty before going.

The good: The place is very clean, and the staff is good to members, too. There's plenty of gaming action inside the casino to enjoy for hours on in. Like my buddy Jose proved, you can win at the slots so the machines won't rip you off, so try your luck at it. The Buffet food is good with plenty of variety.

Overall: Tucked away in the small city of Corning is a very nice Rolling Hills Casino. The environment is friendly as evidenced by those congratulating my friend Jose on winning, and the place is kept clean. There's plenty of slots and tables to play at depending on which interests you more. Even though it is out of the way of bigger cities, I recommend going if you happen to pass the place on I-5 if you have the time to check it out. And with the right luck like my friend Jose had, you could take home some cash in your pocket, too.
