Rolling Stone Releases Full Final Interview of John Lennon

Julia Bodeeb
Rolling Stone magazine has finally released the full version of an interview John Lennon did just three days before he was murdered. The full interview will be in this Friday's issue of Rolling Stone. Before today only small portions of Lennon's interview were released to the public. The original tapes of the interview were still hidden away in the closet of the writer Jonathan Cott. They stayed there untouched for 30 years.

John Lennon was only age 40 at the time of his death. Writer Jonathan Cott described John Lennon at this interview shortly before his death as "totally joyous and vibrant and hopeful and subversive and fearless," notes Huffington Post.

Disdain of Music Critics

It almost seems as if Lennon was prescient in this interview. He describes how music critics "only like people when they're on their way up... I cannot be on the way up again.. What they want is dead heroes... I'm not interested in being dead hero."

Lennon also talks about still believing in "peace, love and understanding" in the Rolling Stone interview. Those words are still so relevant to today's world. We could use a lot more peace now.

John Lennon & Yoko Ono & Paul McCartney

Though his relationships with both Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney has their rough spots, he speaks in admiration of both of them in this final Rolling Stone interview. He notes that "I've selected to work with ..only two people: Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono. That ain't bad picking," reports the Huffington Post.

Yoko Ono's Op-Ed about John Lennon

Yoko Ono has published an endearing Op-Ed piece about John Lennon in the New York Times today. She looks back to a night when they enjoyed sharing laughter. She describes making tea with John as they relaxed together. To read Yoko's Op-Ed go HERE.

The BBC reports that Yoko Ono has made a statement about the impact John Lennon had on the world. "In his short-lived life of 40 years, he has given so much to the world. The world was lucky to have known him. We still learn so much from him today."

Tributes to John Lennon in Liverpool

John Lennon was born in Liverpool, England. His hometown is a pilgrimage for many of his fans. The Liverpool Daily Post reports that the recently created Peace and Harmony monument to John Lennon at Chavasse Park will be the site tonight of a candle light gathering to honor Lennon. This vigil is part of vigils all over the world to remember John Lennon on the 30th anniversary of his death.

RIP John Lennon. Your music lives on forever. Your words of wisdom still inspire us. We hope that someday peace will be a mandate in the world.

Beautifully written, Julia. Worth a nomination. I realize this is the i/view Greg was referring to on Twitter. Surprisingly low key, re events in the UK.
