Romantic Fiction Books for Valentine's Day Gift Giving

A Book is Worth a Thousand Words

Pam Gaulin
Valentine's Day is a time to share love. One way to share love is to give the gift of a book about love or relationships. The best part about book giving is that you can give a book about love or a romantic book to anyone in your life, including a friend, a lover, a sister, a mom or a grandmother.

Some of these romantic books are classic novels, others are more contemporary.

Romantic Fiction Books for Valentine's Day

Darwin's Wink: A Novel of Nature and Loveby Alison Anderson.
What better place for a romance than on an island? The novel explores the theme of heart versus head, and explores love and regret.
The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje.
A hauntingly beautiful book about love set at the end of the second World War.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Is there any greater love than Nick's love for Daisy?

Griffin & Sabine by Nick Bantock.
Griffin & Sabine is a beautifully illustrated, interactive book of love letters. Open envelopes to find letters, read the romantic words written from one lover to another. Although it was originally published in 1991, Griffin & Sabine remains a romantic classic, and makes for a creative and romantic book gift idea for Valentine's Day.

Or, purchase the entire set of the Griffin & Sabine story in the The Griffin & Sabine Trilogy Boxed Set. The boxed set includes Griffin & Sabine, Sabine's Notebook, and The Golden Mean.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.
Love is sometimes wondrous and sometimes tragic. Jane Eyre painfully learns that it is both.

Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel.
Like Water for Chocolate is a deliciously crafted novel about love, sibling rivalry and the art of cooking. The book is written in the style of "magical realism" and belongs in the realm with Elizabeth Allendge and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.
The Time Traveler's Wife is one of the most romantic and interesting books to come out in years. This book captures the true essence of love, and how it can transcend even the most powerful of forces, including time.

True Believer and At First Sightby Nicholas Sparks.
Two romantic books following the natural progression of love.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a not a light-hearted book, contrary to its title. This classic is a must-read for any romantic.
