Romantic Hotels in Eugene, Oregon

Adam Sparks
Eugene is best known as the home of the University of Oregon, but the city offers so much more than just college-town accommodations.

Eugene features dozens of local restaurants that serve regional cuisine, nightclubs and bars, and concert venues that play host to musical acts, ballets, orchestras and a variety of live entertainers. The Willamette River flows through the middle of town and is surrounded by parks and buttes, making for a scenic area that boasts a seemingly unending supply of things to do.

All of this, and the city's handful of hotels, adds up to an ideal place for a romantic getaway. Here are a few hotels to consider for just such an occasion:

Valley River Inn
Valley River Inn is located on the north bank of the Willamette River near the Valley River Center shopping mall.

The hotel's location alone qualifies it for romantic getaways, with rooms that feature private balconies overlooking the river and Skinner Butte Park on the south bank.

Valley River Inn also offers opportunities for romantic meals, with the on-site Sweetwaters On The River restaurant providing cozy, open-air dining next to the river. Sweetwaters serves a variety of foods, specializing in Pacific Northwest cuisine, and offers a fantastic weekend brunch menu.

Valley River Inn has rooms and suites with all the standard amenities. If it's romance you're looking for, check out the 1,000-square-foot Casanova Suite, which has a large, whirlpool soaking tub and a separate shower in the bathroom, a separate living room and two balconies, each with excellent views of the river and the surrounding Eugene area.

Hilton Eugene & Conference Center

The Hilton is located in the heart of downtown Eugene, a high-rise-style hotel that you can't miss as you travel over the Ferry Street Bridge toward the University of Oregon.

The Hilton offers nice rooms and suites for a romantic getaway - each with all the standard amenities you'd expect at a Hilton - but the greatest thing this hotel has going for it is location. Situated on the south side of 6th Street, the Hilton is within walking distance to everything you'll need for a romantic night on the town. The Hult Center for the Performing Arts is less than three blocks south of the hotel and is the place to go for theater shows, concerts and ballet.

Also within walking distance from the Hilton are a handful of restaurants along 5th and 6th streets, including date-night favorites such as 6th Street Grill, Steelhead Brewery, Cafe Lucky Noodle and the Oregon Electric Station. The hotel also offers on-site dining, at Skinner's restaurant and the Share Wine Bar and Bistro, and has an indoor swimming pool and a fitness center.

La Quinta Inn & Suites Eugene

As with the Hilton, La Quinta's romantic opportunities are all about location.

The hotel sits adjacent to Alton Baker Park, on the north side of the Willamette River. The park is an excellent place for a romantic stroll alongside the river, or to just relax in a large field next to a pond full of ducks and geese.

On the edge of Alton Baker Park, also within walking distance of the hotel, is The Cuthbert Amphitheater, a fantastic venue for outdoor concerts that hosts a slew of bands and entertainers throughout the year and during its Summer Concert Series.

The Waterfront Bar & Grill is within walking distance to the east, and several restaurants, including P.F. Chang's, are a short drive away on Coburg Road.

La Quinta Inn offers rooms and suites with standard amenities and available whirlpool soaking tubs in some rooms. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool, hot tub and fitness center.
