Romantic Oregon Coast Getaways: A Review of the Starfish Manor Hotel in Lincoln City

Lyn McCallister
The rugged and beautiful Oregon coast has many special hotels that are ideal for romantic weekend getaways. One such hotel is the Starfish Manor in Lincoln City, about a 2 hour drive from Portland.

On a recent weekend, my husband and I had the opportunity to visit this romantic beachfront hotel for 2 nights to celebrate our anniversary. We had hoped to book someplace warm, cozy, and quiet so we could rest and recharge from our busy lives as working professionals and parents. We dropped the kids off at grandma's house and drove west towards the ocean.

Starfish Manor Hotel - How Is It Romantic?

Fortunately, the Starfish has a strict guest policy - no children under age 12 are allowed to stay in the 17 guest suites. This rule, although it might sound harsh, really exists to enhance a romantic getaway. Nothing detracts from snuggle time with your hunny more than loud children running up and down hallways, pounding on doors, or playing loud music.

Each room is beautifully decorated in soft hues and subtle beach accents. The linens are quite luxurious, certainly better quality than in my own home. The rooms come with either a queen or king bed. Some rooms have couches. All rooms have kitchenettes, gas fireplaces, and bath robes. The most romantic aspect of the rooms is that each comes with either an ocean-facing 2-person jetted Jacuzzi tub or an on-deck, private hot tub.

For extra romance, call the Starfish Manor prior to your stay to arrange rose petals, wine, or champagne delivered to your room. Be aware that there will be an extra fee for this upgraded romance package.

The rooms are equipped with rather small bathrooms containing a toilet and a very nice 2-headed shower. The sink is located outside the bathroom. The complimentary toiletries are upscale and, during our visit, had a nice peppermint fragrance. The toiletries included shampoo, conditioner, soap, and bath soaking salts.

To help keep the romantic mood in full swing at the Starfish, daily maid service is only provided upon request. As a result, you won't experience a maid banging on your door at 8:00 a.m. to ruin your blissful sleep!

Are There Any Downsides to Staying at the Starfish Manor?

It depends on what you want from your romantic weekend getaway on the Oregon coast. Yes, the hotel is a bit pricier than many other accommodations in Lincoln City with the room price coming in at about $200 per night. If you are staying to celebrate an anniversary or for a honeymoon, then this hotel will certainly satisfy your romantic cravings.

The Starfish Manor does not have direct beach access. You will need to walk about 1 block or so and then down a steep set of stairs to reach the beach. It only takes about 10 minutes or so but if you are physically challenged, then this access point will not work for you.

The hotel has a rather strict cancellation policy so read the details very carefully if you are booking on-line. The policy basically states that no cash refunds will be offered, but you may be able to get a voucher if you need to cancel.
