Romantic Restaurants in Bloomington, Indiana

If you're in the mood for a romantic dinner, Bloomington, Indiana has numerous restaurants that are sure to fit the bill. Home to the beautiful Indiana University, this town is bursting with ethnic and gourmet cuisine suitable for even the most romantic of hearts.

Restaurant Tallent offers fine dining with unique Indiana cuisine. Chefs David and Kristen Tallent, a husband and wife duo from Bloomington, work with local farmers to create dishes made with local, seasonal, and organic ingredients. Because of this, the menu changes throughout the year to reflect the foods that are currently in season. It may include anything from lamb with goat cheese grits to walleye with sweet pea oats. If you're lucky, you might even find fried morels on the menu, highly sought-after gems in these parts. Expect to pay around $30 for an entree. For more laid back food, they offer the bar menu. Don't let "laid back" fool you though. Chef David's version of this is still extremely classy, offering items such as fried oysters with collard greens and remoulade and a seasonal soul food plate. The atmosphere is very elegant, just as a romantic restaurant should be. Located at 208 N. Walnut, their hours are Monday through Saturday 5pm-10pm. For more information or to make a reservation, call (812) 330-9801.

The Scholar's Inn Gourmet Cafe and Wine Bar is housed in a restored 150-year-old mansion on North College Avenue in Bloomington. They have an award-winning wine and martini menu, with weekly half-price specials on both. Begin your meal with one of their delicious starters, such as cured Asian calamari. Then savor one of their amazing entrees, including duck breast or butternut squash manicotti. If you have room, finish with a flaming bananas foster or a slice of red velvet cake. Again, expect to pay up to $30 per entree. There is no formal dress code, and no children's menu available. They are open for dinner 5pm-11pm daily, and offer a Saturday and Sunday brunch from 10am-2pm. For more information or to make a reservation, call (812)332-1892 between the hours of 9am and 11pm daily.

For a romantic candle light dinner, Ragazzi Arte Cafe is the place to go. Located in the historic Prospect Hill neighborhood on South Rogers Street, Ragazzi offers authentic Italian (Calabrese) cuisine. Try the scaloppine alla pollo, chicken scaloppine sauteed with lemon butter, capers, and white wine sauce. If you prefer a vegetarian option, the margutta--eggplant and zucchini grilled and topped with fresh melted Fior de Latte mozzarella--is delicious. They sometimes run out of popular entrees, but pick another one--they are all amazing. Most entrees on the dinner menu are priced under $20. The atmosphere of Ragazzi is very comfortable and unique. You will never meet a friendlier group of people. For reservations, call (812)323-9005.

These are just a few of the many restaurants that you can count on for a romantic dinner in Bloomington, Indiana. Fresh food and an intimate atmosphere make them all wonderful options for your night of romance.

Hi, Jonna, I'm another Bloomington resident on AC. Just discovered your name under my article abt the 4th St. Festival. Looks like you write on a variety of really interesting topics! I have to agree w/ your choice of romantic restaurants. My fave is sitting out on the patio at the Scholar's Inn on an evening when the weather is lovely & little lights around the deck come on. *sigh* A lot of those exotic restaurants on E. 4th St also have a romantic ambiance. During the 4th St Festival this year, my 10-yr old granddaughter & I ate lunch on the patio at Anatolia, the Turkish restaurant in that cute little purple house. They have a lot of vegetarian dishes, which Zoe appreciated since my daughter's household doesn't eat meat. Zoe said "This is the most romantic restaurant! I want my first date to be here." The kid's planning ahead! ; ) Hope to be able to check out more of your articles, but I get sooooo behind, I make a pretty lame fan!
