Romantic Restaurants in the New River Valley, Virginia

Great Places to Have a Romantic Date

BLACKSTONE GRILL located on Peppers ferry road offers awesome food and an even better wine selection. Blackstone Grill was formally known as Bookbinders. It's in the same location but the menu has been redone to be less formal and less pricey. The restaurant isn't any less nice though. The menu offers normal "grill food" ranging from burgers to steaks. They have wonderful salads such as the Pistachio Crusted Goat Cheese salad that is described on the menu as: matchstick pears, balsamic onions, drunken cranberries and champagne vinaigrette. I had this last time I was there because I didn't want anything too bad for me and I wasn't disappointed. My date had the Oven-Roasted Statler Breast of Chicken with bacon-potato hash and a natural herb jus. It was simply cooked but very moist and delicious.

My date and I sat close to the open kitchen and it was really fun to watch the chefs cook. The hostess took our coats which was a nice gesture and something rarely done in the New River Valley. We really enjoyed our evening there. The restaurant is close to the Regal Cinema so it's easy to go see a movie before or after your meal.

Burgers start at $8.95 with most entrees being around $18.00

THE PALISADES RESTAURANT located in the little town of Eggleston, about a 15 minute drive from Virginia Tech offers one of the most unique settings for a romantic date in the New River Valley. The restaurant's website describes the location as "he Palisades Restaurant retains the unique features of its Historic Landmark building, including exposed brick walls, pressed tin ceilings and hardwood floors. Pyne's Store was a vibrant business in the late 1920s, during one of Eggleston's many heydays and, as part of the New River's rich history, was featured prominently in the June 1999 issue of National Geographic Magazine.". The old general store counter now serves as the bar for this restaurant. The menu offers a great variety of different choices. The food is served elegantly on rectangular plates with pretty garnishes. I liked that their side dish offerings were different from the usual. The side choices are sweet potato soufflé, wild rice or garlic mashed potatoes. The sweet potato soufflé was my favorite part of the meal, not to discount the amazing pork chops. They have an extensive wine and beer list. For less intimate evenings they have a very nice banquet room on the top floor for parties and larger groups. The entrees are on average $15.00. The little town is very cute and old it would be fun to take a walk around after dinner.

THE RIVER COMPANY RESTAURANT- The restaurant describes itself as "Family owned restaurant serving a variety of menu items highlighted by locally raised dry-aged beer and beer brewed on premises...Housed in a timber framed facility we offer old world charm with a comfortable and friendly atmosphere". I visited the location in Radford a little before Christmas in 2009 and had a great time. There were twinkle lights everywhere and big beautiful fireplace with a nice fire going. We went with a group and took individual couples pictures around the fireplace because it was so pretty. The restaurant has beautiful vaulted ceiling with large pine beams. Even the bathroom was nicely decorated. My date and I had a steak. He chose the dry aged steak that was $10.00 more than the regular or "wet steak" that I had. Both were excellent. We all sampled the beers that were brewed on the premises. The smallest steak, the 6 oz filet mignon is priced at $20.75.
