Romantic Restaurants in the South Side of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Amy Kay
Pittsburgh's South Side is best known for its wide array of bars and rowdy college students. But, tucked back from all of the noise, there are a few exquisite restaurants that are perfect for a romantic evening out in one of Pittsburgh's most lively neighborhoods. These romantic South Side restaurants are sure to please.

Mallorca

This charming and romantic south side restaurant serves up the best Spanish cuisine that Pittsburgh has to offer. The interior of the restaurant feels like a villa on the Mediterranean. You can choose to eat in one of the four separate dining rooms or outside on the terrace patio. Mallorca has an extensive menu and the portions are very large- you'll have enough food to share.

Tip: Mallorca can get fairly crowded and noisy during the weekend dinner hours. Noise can detract from the whole romantic restaurant experience. For more intimate dining, make a reservation for a week night or an early Sunday dinner on the terrace.

Dish Osteria & Bar

Dish is a European style bistro that features southern Italian food. There is also an extensive wine list and some pretty yummy specialty drinks. I like to describe the restaurant interior as minimalist romantic. It doesn't try too hard to be romantic, yet somehow it offers the perfect amount of ambiance and intimacy. The kitchen is open until midnight, so if you want a glass of wine and a late night bite, this is the place to go.

Tip: The tables at Dish are small and closely spaced. For the best romantic experience, go early evening or midweek when it's less crowded.

Location: 128 S 17th St. on Pittsburgh's South Side.

17th Street Café

17th Street Café is located a block away from the hustle and bustle of busy Carson Street. This quaint café style restaurant specializes in Italian Cuisine. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and romantic. The staff is friendly and the owner is always there to greet you and make sure you are having a great dining experience.

Location: 75 S. 17th St. on Pittsburgh's South Side.

If you're in Pittsburgh's South Side and are looking for something a little more than the noisy bar scene, stop at one of these romantic restaurants.
