Romantic Trips in New York for GLBT Couples

New Options in Beach Towns and Upstate Bed & Breakfasts

There are many romantic getaways available for gay and lesbian couples traveling from New York City. Because New York City and the East Coast in general is so gay friendly, finding a romantic destination that is welcoming isn't difficult. However, there are a few locations that specifically cater to gay and lesbian couples seeking a romantic weekend.

One of the best known, of course, is Fire Island, but the scene there is often more about partying than a romantic weekend for a couple. Instead, gay and lesbian couples may want to check out Asbury Park, NJ, an up and coming destination for romantic weekend trips.

Asbury Park is located just over an hour from New York City. A beach community, this former amusement park town spent decades being a run down shadow of its old . But about ten years ago, gay couples started buying beach houses in the area and doing gorgeous renovations. Since then Asbury Park has been a thriving gay beach-side community and is a perfect destination for a romantic weekend trip that is easily accessible from New York City.

For those not interested in sun and sand, upstate New York also provides great gay and lesbian friendly destinations. Sullivan County in particular is becoming known as a hot spot for romantic gay and lesbian weekend trips. Located just two hours from New York City, the area features several gay and lesbian owned bed and breakfasts with prices that range from $75 to $225 per night.

Both Asbury Park and Sullivan County are accessible from New York City via public transit for those who want a romantic escape, but like many city residents are non-drivers.
