For someone who gardens, a trip to gardening stores while on vacation adds some special fun to the trip. So book a vacation to a favorite place with warm weather. Plan to make some stops at garden stores to buy items for the garden during the trip. It is nice to buy something like a rose bush or lilac seedling that will grow and bloom for a long time to bring back pleasant memories of that vacation.
Heart Shaped Birdhouse
Anyone who is handy with power tools could create a cute heart shaped birdhouse. The house itself could be square, with hearts attached to the outside of the house. You could either use one large heart on each side or a smattering of smaller hearts all over the birdhouse. Then paint the hearts red or pink and perhaps add the word love in the middle of the heart in white or black paint.
This cute, romantic gift will warm the heart of any bird lover. It will also help birds have a place to live.
Ten Rose Bushes
Surprise someone with an instant rose garden by buying ten rose bushes. You could have a theme to the garden. There are many rose bushes named after people or places. This could help give you an idea for the theme to the rose garden.
Plant the rose bushes for the garden too. This gift should not entail work on the part of the recipient. A promise to work to maintain the garden would be a nice touch too.
Basket of Seeds for Vegetables or Fruits
Everyone has a favorite summer meal based around fresh vegetables. So put together a gift basket of vegetables you know the gift recipient often uses in cooking. Some seeds for popular vegetables, herbs and fruits include: eggplant, zucchini, basil, peppers, tomatoes, melons, oregano and mint.
Offer to plant the seeds in the spring time. Then enjoy a summer full of fresh vegetables from the garden together.
A Bench
A garden bench is a romantic gift. It can be used as a place to relax together and to observe the garden. Time spent on a bench in a garden is comforting and romantic when with a special person.
A bench could be purchased at a garden store or made by hand. There are many different types of garden benches. So get some gardening magazines and look through them with the person who will receive the gift. She if he or she comments on any of the benches in the photos. This might give you a hint of what kind of bench to buy.
A Trellis and Flowers or Rose Bush
A trellis adds a bit of romance to the garden. Seeing beautiful flowers or roses cascading up and over a trellis makes any gardener happy.
Having a trellis installed in the yard of a gardener who had admired them in other gardens would be a lovely treat. Planting flowers or rose bush with the trellis or offering to go shop for them together would enhance the gift.
A Flower of the Month Gift Book
If someone loves flowers, create a gift book with tear out pages to claim a gift of flowers to plant in the garden each month of the spring and summer. You could list the favorite flowers of the person in the book and also leave some pages as "your choice" so you can go to the garden store together to pick out some flower seeds or plants for the garden.
This gift is spread out over the gardening season, so it will bring ongoing happiness to the recipient. Also, any handmade gift is always special. You could find photos of the flowers on the Internet to include in the book. You could also add quotes about flowers or gardening to some pages of the book.
A Scrapbook or Dry Board to Plan a Dream Garden
Gardeners love to create a new garden from scratch. Thus a scrapbook as a gift could make ideas for a garden come to life.
You could get some other items too for use in this project. Colored pencils or Sharpie markers would help the person draw ideas for design or colors of a garden. Gardening magazine could be used to find photos of flowers or shrubs to include in the garden.
Another way to plan a garden is to use a large dry board that could be hung on a wall. Use colored markets to plot out the garden item by item.
