Romantic Valentine's Day Poems: Secret Sonata

Joanne Huspek
Secret Sonata

There's a secret sonata I play just for you-
Every night I sing the words I made just for you.
All alone in the stillness of my little room
By the light of candles and beams of moon
I say the words you long to hear
Pretend to kiss your cheek and draw you near.
But you're not supposed to know the way I feel
While I'm sorting fantasies from what is real.

The song I sing is about awakenings
Just as the earth turns over from winter into spring.
The greening of my soul from a sleepy seed,
It's about caring and joy and discovering need.
And it's so sweet and sad when you're not here
I miss all those things that make you dear
to me
But you're not supposed to know the way I feel
Until I am certain if it's truly real.

My secret sonata, I keep in my heart for you.
I play it each day I am apart from you.
The music moves in light and lively time
With a promise of "later" when you'll be all mine
When once again with your arms around me
Your love will hold me captive as it surrounds me.
But you're not supposed to know the way I feel.
Why is it so hard to tell if it's real?

The memory of your touch just like a melody
Raises empty spirits and sets them free.
I send them to you one by one
'Til they wrap themselves around like circles 'round the sun.
And so I pray you will return to me
This hollow heart is of much concern to me.
It is easy to know the way that I feel.
One look at my face will tell you it's real.
