Romantic Valentine's Gifts for Women

Three Romantic Gift Choices for the Woman in Your Life

Christi Bowers
Valentine's Day is almost here again. Perhaps throughout the year you have forgotten how special your girlfriend or wife is, or you have just neglected to be romantic. Well, the chance for you to make up for all of that is just around the corner.

To be romantic, the gift is going to require some thought. Your wife or girlfriend may not be satisfied with the run of the mill red roses you've gotten her every year for the past ten years. (Of course, this is still a romantic gift.) So what can you get her this year that will inspire the truest of emotional feelings and confidence that you are the romantic guy you always claimed to be? Here are three gift ideas.

1. Spa treatment. With the present economy, times are tough. Stress levels are high. Everyone, most likely including your girlfriend, is riddled with the thoughts of how the bills will get paid each month and how long the financial struggles will last. A spa treatment is ideal for any woman who is stressing out over finances, as well as any woman with children who has her hands full caring for them. This will give her a chance to relax, even if just for a few hours.

The reason this gift is romantic is because it will show the woman that you appreciate how tough times are for her. You understand that it isn't easy trying to meet deadlines and handle young or teenage children. She will see that you care about her well being and her personal needs.

How much will a spa treatment cost you? It depends on the type of treatment, the duration, and the location of the business. In a small town, you can expect a spa treatment to cost less than in a big city or at a resort. This is especially true if the resort is known for it's spa. A simple Swedish massage or deep tissue massage will run around $100 per hour, regardless of the location. Sometimes you can find prices as low as $60. If you throw in other things, like a mud bath or aromatherapy, you might spend up to $300 on a total package that could last two or three hours. In popular locations, a package could run up to $500.

To find a spa near you, the internet is the best place to search. If there is a resort near you, most likely there will be a spa. Or, some nice hotel chains have spas in certain locations. Try a city search for spas, or a general web search with spas in ___________ (city, state).

If you live in Hagerstown, MD, Spa Emergency actually has a Valentines' Day special for their spa. A great website for Florida spas is Spectacular Spas.

2. Gift Certificates to Help with Expenses. In normal times with a thriving economy, most women wouldn't prefer to receive a gift to help them with bills. They want something extravagant, something that shows they are special. However, when it is hard to make ends meet, a gift of a gift certificate works for any woman.

The woman who would best enjoy a gift certificate would be one who is having trouble financially or one who has become extremely practical in these hard times. This would give the woman a chance to help get caught up on her bills, or pay for groceries for her and the children.

The best gift certificate for being practical is probably a Walmart gift certificate. These can be found on the Walmart website or in person at the store. You can make the gift certificate for any amount you want it to be.

3. Weekend getaway package. With all the stress surrounding an ordinary day, a weekend escape is perfect. You get the chance to enjoy the weekend together and forget about bills and expenses. Many resorts will offer special packages for Valentine's Day weekend with special prices and even a special menu in the dining room. If you live in the Washington, DC area you can try Massanutten as one place to go. If you can fly, try a resort in Florida such as Marriott Grande Vista. This gift is ideal for a woman who really needs to get away, and a woman who appreciates travel.

A gift like this can cost more than the other two gifts. You'll be paying for accommodations, road travel or plane travel, and food while you are there. And, if you throw in a spa treatment as well, you're in for even more money. At Massanutten, you can stay in one of the hotel type rooms for about $100 per night, whereas the timeshare accommodations will cost up to $1000 or more. At Marriott Grande Vista, the cost will be about $150 to $200 per night for a efficiency or one bedroom accommodation. Plane flights to Florida cost $200 to $500 round trip, and plan on $100 per day at a minimum for food.
