Less than an hour away from the city of Erie, Peak N Peak Resort and Conference Center in Clymer, New York is a fantastic place for a romantic get-away. The Peak has all kinds of entertainment for any couple no matter the season. In the summer months the Peak has two beautiful golf courses for the hardcore enthusiasts, not to mention an outstanding mini-golf course for those more apt to putting a golf ball than driving it 300 yards. It also has an outdoor pool and hot tub. Throughout the winter the resort is famous for its numerous ski slopes. Twelve months out of the year the Peak has an indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna available. There are also several options when it comes to obtaining a suite, all depending on how much a person is willing to spend.
Quite possibly the highlight of any weekend at the Peak would have to be the Sunday champagne brunch. The brunch, set up buffet style, is held in the main lodge of the Peak every Sunday morning. Delicious does not even begin to describe how good the meal is. What is unique about brunch at the Peak is that every Sunday there is a different theme to the brunch. The themes can be found on the Peak's official website, so the weekend can be planned around the theme of the brunch if so desired.
Roughly a thirty minute drive from Erie is Findley Lake, also in the state of New York. What makes Findley Lake a special place for a romantic weekend is the variety of activities a couple can do together. There are numerous shops in the area that are just a walk away from any bed and breakfast surrounding the lake. The restaurants in the area are great, whether a couple is looking for a fancy romantic dinner or just a quick bite.
Of course the highlight of this little town in New York would be the lake itself. Findley Lake is a very small and tranquil lake that runs right in the middle of the town and is perfect for any water activity. From taking a small boat out on the water to jet skiing to fishing, anything is fair game, as the lake is quite possibly the most still body of water I have ever seen. It is also a perfect spot to just sit and relax. One of the favorite activities for me and my sweetie when we head out to Findley Lake is to take a walk along the shore while skipping rocks on the still water.
One thing people from the Erie area take for granted (myself included) is the proximity of the city to Niagara Falls. Of course the Falls are the highlight of the trip, as they are one of nature's most incredible sights to behold. However, whether staying on the American or Canadian side of the Falls, there are a plethora of options when it comes to activities.
A couple can choose whether they want to stay at one of the many luxury hotels in the area of just find a small bed and breakfast. There are countless shops and restaurants of all kinds near the Falls, perfect for any situation. For many, a trip to the Falls would not be complete without a stop at one of the several casinos in the area. Finally, if it is a night out on the town that is desired, the city of Buffalo and its attractions are only a hop, skip, and a jump away.
In fact, one of the great things about where Erie is located is just how close it is to larger cities. People who live in Erie often yearn for a more metropolitan lifestyle, and luckily there are three distinct options all within driving distance. The city of Buffalo is roughly an hour away from Erie, while Cleveland can be reached in less than two hours and Pittsburgh in just about two and a half hours. If you and your other half are into sports, all three cities have professional sports franchises twelve months out of the year. All three offer fine dining and nightlife not available in the small city of Erie. These three cities also have many tourist spots that cannot be found in Erie, such as the Carnegie Museums in Pittsburgh and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
What makes Erie a special place is that it is neither a small rural area nor a large overbearing city. This gives a couple options on just where to go for a romantic weekend, as any of the places mentioned above have different attractions than what is available in the city. Whether your idea of romance is a quiet get-away in a small town or a busy weekend in a larger city, any of the places mentioned in this article are a special way to spend a weekend with the person you love.
