Ron Howard, No Angel? "Angels & Demons" Slammed

Catholic League President Says Movie Disrespect Catholics

The Huffington Post reported Ron Howard's latest movie, "Angels & Demons", received a harsh review from Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League and popular guest media commentator. Mr. Donohue pointed out Howard's disdain for Catholics runs throughout this movie. Donohue has pegged Howard as anti-Catholic and contributing to another Catholic smear campaign.

Howard shoots back that the Catholic League and Mr. Donohue take exception to any material that Mr. Donohue identifies to be anti-Catholic. Mr. Howard commented the movie is not intended to offend or viewed as anti-Catholic. Ron Howard can direct the movies of his choice, as can all directors. Movie popularity is based on the audience paying to see the movie. Whether the movie is labeled as garbage is of no consequence.

As President of the Catholic League, Mr. Donohue was doing his job; just as Mr. Howard's job is to direct movies. I have heard Mr. Donohue speak on several related topics. He is a bulldog on a loose leash. This angel may be over mild mannered Ron 's head.

A good smack of realism would serve Mr. Donohue well. He needs to reach his Catholic base. If the movie theme is offensive not only to Catholics but also to other religions, Church/s could lead a "Do Not See This Movie" campaign. Church people should not see this movie, and neither should their children. It is that simple.

And if the zealots of religious doctrine will stay true to their beliefs, this movie will not be seen by Catholics or any people practicing Christian faith. A Canadian Catholic priest traveling with the film crew confirmed some crew members were not fond of Catholics. The group was refused rights to film at the Vatican.

With the pre-publicity, some will see the movie regardless. Will these folks go to mass or church on Sunday morning, or Saturday evening, or Wednesday night? The movie is scheduled for release on May 15, 2009. That is a Wednesday; a prayer meeting night for most people of faith, and they will probably not see this movie.

Only Ron Howard knows Ron Howard's intentions?
