Ron Paul

America's Roman Statesman

Junior
Ron Paul

Who is this man?

A bit like John Galt[1],

His name is a whisper

and a murmur,

Blowing in the winds

of cyberspace.

His name is two syllables,

A John Doe,

One man with hope,

Not a fancy, marketable name,

Not a politician's game.

Let's take it back 3,000 years.

There once was a dream

That was called "Republic."

The Romans spoke in whispers

about this public thing[2]:

One government ruled,

not by kings,

Nor by wealthy politicians

and their wealthy clients,

But by the Rule of Law,

and elected representatives,

People,

just like you and me.

SPQR

Senatus Populusque Romanus

The Senate and People of Rome

Rome fell

Because the power went to their heads;

And the power was not

Returned to the people.

Today we have another chance:

One simple man

Who loves music and boating,

Who hails from the Lone Star State,

Which once fought to the death

For its own independence.

Whispering, "Remember the Alamo."

Today Ron Paul whispers,

"Remember the Constitution,"

As we fight in wars undeclared,

But for all this still fared;

As we concentrate power in the Executive

For the sake of the idol Security;

This one man says, "Enough."

"Remember Rome."

"Remember the Constitution."

Remember Ron Paul.

[1] John Galt is the hero of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, a 1957 novel about the fate of a fictional society under big-government interventionist policies.

[2] "Republic" is from the Latin "res publica," meaning public thing.

    thanks justice, my inspiration for this poem was from the movie "Gladiator," and of course from the work and life of Ron Paul
