Ron Paul and His "Paulbots"

Do They All Really Wear Tin-Foil Hats?

x
Ron Paul. The mere mention of his name inflames the passions of just about evryone concerned with presidential politics. Supporters of this dark horse have been marginalized and ridiculed as conspiracy nuts and black helicopter freaks. A few have even refered to them as "Paulbots"; a slur that conjurs up images of mindless vegetables following a charasmatic cult leader's every command (remember the "Moonies" of the Unification church?)

I decided to take the question to the streets and find out just what kind of people support Ron Paul and, most importantly, can they justify their support rationally and intelligently. What I found out may just be the most shocking, bone-chilling thing to be uncovered since Bohemian Grove!

Ron Paul's supporters are NORMAL PEOPLE (GASP)! Oh, my God! Yes, they are average people, and they are EVERYWHERE! Your neighbor could be one. So can your boss, or your mother-in-law, or EVEN YOUR SPOUSE! I've met scores of them in real life here in Tennessee, and none of them even OWNS a tin-foil hat!

They come from all walks of life; laborers, professionals, college students, retirees; they're people of many different faiths, races, and nationalities. Some write, some make music, some build houses. Some paint with oils on canvas and some paint houses or cars. What makes these "Paulbots" unique is that they are much too diverse to be pigeonholed.

Most of whom I've met in person and online seem pretty level-headed, and can intelligently back up their convictions in a calm, mature manor. Do some Ron Paul supporters get ugly and rude with those who don't support their candidate? Of course, and Ron Paul even has the misfortune of having some real nut-cases waving signs for him. But I ask you, dear reader, what family doesn't have its black sheep?

These abberations aside, another thing that makes Paul's supporters unique is that, for the most part, they put their differences aside, and focus on the main thing they have in common, and that is their desire to return the power of government to THE PEOPLE where long ago, the Founding Fathers decided it belongs!

Those who call them "Paulbots" evidently don't know many Ron Paul supporters, because they have made up their minds that they're no longer going to fall for the endless lies from career politicians who have taken over the 2 halves of our national ruling party. These people have clearly thought about their decisions to support Ron Paul. The ones I've met are clear, articulate, independent thinkers who just want to be left alone to live their lives as free people.

It seems the ones who are calling them "Paulbots" are just angry because they won't support the Status Quo, be it Republican or Democrat. That is the usual lament of frustrated Svengalis; "If we cannot influence you, than you are obviously being influenced by someone else!" The notion that a person is capable of making an uncoerced, independent decision never occurs to them!

So go ahead; call them "Paulbots"! They just bloody well don't care! After all, they aren't the ones marching in lock-step with some party's platform. It sounds to me like the ocean is criticizing the raindrops.

  • Ron Paul's supporters are just average people who've had enough of the Status Quo.
  • "Paulbot" is a misnomer cast towards people who think independently of party politics.
  • The Status Quo unfairly paints Ron Paul's supporters as mentally disturbed conspiracy freaks.
Ron Paul set an online fundraisng recors by raising 4 million dollars in 24 hours, with no donations by huge lobbies or corporations (No wonder Big Business hates him so much!) Not bad for a "Joke" backed by a bunch of conspiracy nuts!

It still amazes me that in a country that wasn't meant to have a two party system anyone who votes for the other guy is considered a terrorist. I was watching something about Ralph Nadar, democrats actually blamed him for the loss of the election...not election fraud...and when Ron Paul recieves a good portion of the American vote will it be his fault too? George Washington said the two party system would be the death of America...and look at us dying the slow cancerous death of capitalism, parties bought by the highest bidder.

    Couldn't hurt, Tyler! ;-)

Mike, are you telling us to watch C-Span instead of old Gunsmoke re-runs on TVLand? (:

True, Brett, they didn't intend for ALL the power to go to the people, but they DID intend for the people to have bore power than the government. The first three words of the Preamble state that fact. This is why America isn't a true Democracy (which is little more than Mob Rule), but rather a Representative Republic. Having said that, the People have the final say-so as to how Congress votes concerning various issues. The Bill of Rights give We The People, not government, the right to control our destinies. Unfortunately, however, you are right about most people being uninformed; Americans need to check voting records and follow the issues, instead of worrying about who can't sing or who's gonna get kicked off the island! Most politicians in both parties would rather keep voters uninformed (i.e., distracted by pap), so they'll keep on believing the half-truths they're being fed, because they'd rather do what's best for big business than what's best for America.

Actually, the Founding Fathers didn't want all the power to belong to belong to the people. And for good reason! Most people are not very informed. We choose who is to represent us but once that politician is in power, should they base their decisions on the polls rather than on their own ideas and unique perspective as the person who actually bases their life around the state of the world and more specifically America? Of course not!

Ron Paul supporters aren't terrorists - they're just so out of touch with reality that they want to appease them.

Beck is a hack as are most of the talking heads either on radio or television. I tend to find Ron Paul people to be fervent and you have ti admire the passion that they bring to the table. However, I still don't understand being pro-life and also being opposed to any kind of a welfare state like Dr. Paul is. I can follow the logic of being pro-choice and against the welfare state, but I simply can't wrap my head around the other way. Maybe it is because I tend to lean to the agnostic point of view when it comes to religion.

Maybe I truly am a fascist in many ways and just don't believe it would be a better world in people had more autonomy to just do whatever they want. Awesome article though dude.

    Awesome.
Yea, I was really offended by the comment that Ron Paul supporters are terrorists.
Ron Paul is prettymuch the American Candidate. The rest are just one evil or another. With Ron Paul you don't have to compromise one belief in support of another. He's for all of the real American values. 2nd amendment, lower taxes, non intervention foreign policy, no treatys/entanglements with other nations, personal liberty, privacy, etc.
In all actuallity, the people who support candidates who would strengthen the national government, make treatys, be in the U.N., dissolve our nations borders for unregulated trade from Canada to South America, and violate the constitution at every turn, are the real terrorists.
