Ron Paul's Fundraising Hits $9.8 Million Mark, Surpasses Fred Thompson
According to a press release issued by the Ron Paul Presidential Campaign Committee on Thursday night, Congressman Paul has raised $9,757,382 dollars in the fourth quarter of 2007, with December still remaining in this quarter. By comparison, fellow Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson received $9,750,821 in contributions during the entire third quarter.
Campaign spokesman Joe Seehusen was quoted as calling the fundraising success a "milestone", attributing it to the support of voters for Congressman Paul's "message of freedom, peace, and prosperity." The release also indicated that the campaign has set a goal of $12,000,000 dollars to be raised by the end of the fourth quarter (December 31st), and pointed out that Dr. Paul is the first presidential candidate to make real-time fundraising data available to the public.
The press release also stated that Congressman Ron Paul has surpassed Fred Thompson in a recent poll of New Hampshire voters, and received a record amount of funds on November 5th ($4,200,000); more than thirty-seven thousand people donated to his campaign on that day.
Congressman Paul's fourth quarter fundraising has exceeded the amounts some of the other Republican and Democratic candidates raised in the third quarter as well. According to the Wikipedia page on fundraising in the current presidential election, Democratic candidates John Edwards, Chris Dodd, Mike Gravel, Bill Richardson, Dennis Kucinich, and Joe Biden, as well as Republican candidates John McCain, Duncan Hunter, Sam Brownback, Tom Tancredo, and Mike Huckabee all raised less than $9.7 million in the third quarter. It is also worthy of note that Paul's third quarter fundraising ($5.2 million) exceeded that of Senator John McCain and several others as well.
According to the Wikipedia entry on Fred Thompson, in addition to being a politician, he is a lawyer, actor, and lobbyist. He was a Tennessee Senator from late 1994 to early 2003. The entry on Ron Paul indicates that he is a medical doctor who has served in the Air Force and represents the 14th district of Texas in the House of Representatives. He previously ran for President as a Libertarian Party candidate, and has received the endorsement of the Constitution Party's previous presidential nominee.

Post a CommentA liberal, Barry Stevens, that's not correct. He's the farthest from big government. Liberals are for big government. Ron Paul is for individuals and states. Not the Fed. Gov. Do some research, it's voters like you who screw the rest of us.
Ron Paul has absolutely no shot at all at winning the 2008 election. I love the fact that he is honest, brings ideas, and is willing to rally support for his belief. We need more politicians like Ron Paul. But let's be honest, he's a liberal. He's against the war. There's no way in the world he will be on Republican ticket. He's basically Alan Keyes, except he's White instead of Black.
Ron Paul's fundraising numbers keep growing as more people hear about him. I never even heard of him before September. The internet and youtube make it easy to see what a candidate has to say in their own words instead of having to listen to someone else's spin or lies. I've bought campaign stuff to promote him and will give more on bill of rights weekend. Lots of people like me who never gave to a campaign before are helping Paul.
Does anyone see any other candidate with the level of support that Ron Paul has?
Ron Paul can no longer be labeled a "long shot" candidate as he absolutely dominates in the Straw Polls, Debate Polls, Fund Raising, Web Traffic and Grass Roots Networking and is clearly a "top tier" candidate for the Republican Presidential nomination. I don't think they're trying to be disingenuous, Mike. I think it was the campaign's fault for not waiting till the end of the day to send in their press release.
I think they got a little too eager. They need to stop doing that. Next time, wait till the actual end of the day and send in the full numbers.

Are you trying to be disingenuous? Ron Paul raised just above 10.3 million dollars before the end of the day. He surpassed all the republican presidential candidates third quarter donations. I don't know if you heard this information first hand or miscalculated somehow. The number you gave might have been the number it was starting off the last day. I don't want to accuse you, but that is the corrected amount. Thank you for your time.
