Ron Paul's Speech at the CPAC 2011

Ron Paul gave a speech at the CPAC 2011 (Conservative Political Action Conference.) This article highlights items in his speech and provides my opinion.

Ron Paul spoke about what this nation is all about. He spoke about the Freedom Movement.

He spoke about the Patriot Act. He called it a violation of the fourth amendment of the US Constitution.

He spoke about doing a lot less in foreign nations. He referenced all the money our nations has invested in Egypt. He spoke about Mubarak's alleged corruption. He said we should not interfere with the internal affairs of foreign nations. He said that foreign aid is adding to our deficit.

He said that people don't like us supporting their dictators. He said our foreign policy is flawed. He said we cannot afford keeping our brave soldiers in 135 nations. He said it is time for us to re-assess our foreign policy.

He favors a balanced budget amendment.

He said we are spending too much money and accused the federal reserve of taking care of their buddies.

He said the Federal reserve passed out 4 trillion dollars with out Congressional Approval. He stated that the Federal Reserve creates money out of thin air. He said Congress has to protect the value of the currency.

He said we have had too much bipartisanship in the past 60 years. He said the issue should be good philosophy versus bad philosophy. He said good bipartisanship is all political parties agreeing on cutting spending.

He said that we gave up our devotion to liberty. He said that we cannot force freedom on other people.

He said that government should not be regulating us. He spoke against the use of violence against our friends, neighbors and other nations. He said liberty is our most important element and that liberty comes from our creator.

He said that government should not do anything the people cannot do. He said the government should not redistribute wealth.

If said if we don't take care of ourselves, we should not ask the government for anything.

I conclude this article with my own opinions on the topics Ron Paul addressed.

Ron Paul's philosophy on foreign affairs would leave the terrorists free to plan attacks on our nation. Furthermore, it would leave nations free to hide, support and protect terrorists. I agree in general that we should not interfere with the internal affairs of other nations. However; when intelligence indicates terrorist activities being supported and financed by a foreign nation, the philosophy expressed by Ron Paul is irresponsible and dangerous. As a matter of fact, any administration that turns a blind eye to the threat of terrorism, regardless of how remote that threat is, is violating the oath to protect, defend and abide by the US Constitution!

The Federal Reserve board is a creature of Congress. The Constitution gives Congress broad powers with the statement "To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof." Ron Paul displayed a lack of understanding of the US Constitution.

Ron Paul should do research before making radical statements about the Federal Reserve Board. He displayed a total lack of understanding of TARP which was authorized in the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. He made a wild accusation about the buddies of the Federal Reserve Board without any sound evidence to support that allegations.

Ron Paul also stated that the Welfare system was unconstitutional. Apparently he is not aware of the long standing debate over the phrase "promote the General Welfare."

He spoke of too much bipartisanship. The lack of bipartisanship will yield an unproductive Congress and a voter revolt in the next election. Already, ex-members of Congress are collecting campaign contributions and are planning to attempt re-election in 2012.

Ron Paul essentially took a step backwards. No candidate; who supports isolationism, makes statements that could be interpreted as "leave our enemies alone", displays a lack of knowledge about Congress and refuses to compromise; will be elected in the 2012 Presidential Campaign.

The budget being debated in the House of Representatives would send shock waves through our fragile economy that could cause our economy to spiral into another great depression. The budget is reckless, irresponsible and tainted with contempt.

The voters want progress. They want this new Congress to create jobs, lower the costs of health care, lower the deficit and "provide for our common defense." Ron Paul has demonstrated that he does not possess the political pragmatism to accomplish any of these goals. Based on what I have heard, I personally extend this lack of competence to all Tea Party Congressional members. There is no authority in the Constitution to have a Federal Reserve System, no authority for the welfare state and no authority for the police state."
