Ron White in Concert - Really Worth the $125?
Ron White, the Blue Collar Comedian Performed at Sound Advice Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Fla
West Palm Beach, FL 33076
United States of America
The tickets ended up costing about $125.00 with all the tack on fees. Had I known how expensive this was becoming at the beginning I would have opted to watch him on television . Which is basically what we ended up doing anyway. Even though we had reasonable seats, Ron White still looked very small from where we were seated and we had to watch him on the Jumbotron. The whole evening had a strong undertone of "what a waste of money".
The travel time to get there is only about 40 minutes but because of road construction and the amount of traffic going to the fair as well as the show it took forever to inch our way along the highway, into the entrance and then down long, windy, bumpy, unpaved dirt roads to the parking. From there we were able to hop a little jitney to the perimeter of the Ampitheatre and from there we had to hoof it. Add to this we both had the flu and the whole evening was getting dumber and dumber. We had left ourselves plent of time to get to our seats luckily. It ended up taking us a full hour, until 8:00 .We had our bag of cough syrup, lozenges, tissues and aspirin. Everyone else seemed to have bottles of beer. There we sat in the middle of tons of sleazy looking, beer drinking "red necks". Why we were surprised t the element of the crowd, I don't know. This is red neck humor we came to see. But more about that later. We sat there waiting for Ron White. Music was blaring. At 8:30 the roaring music finally stopped and a comedian came on stage. Not Ron White. Someone else. Whoever he was he performed and was funny but we had hustled to get to a show to see Ron White and now it was 9:00 p.m..
Finally, Ron White appears. The first thing he cracks wise about was those lousy dirt roads. He was entertaining. He is very blue. I usually don't like that kind of humor but he makes it pretty funny. There is nothing he won't discuss in detail particularly his sex life. His description of what goes on when he's on the road is all presented in his thick voiced, manner while he puffs on his cigar and sips at his Scotch. There is no question he is funny, different ,hard and entertaining. He's written best sellers like "I Had the Right to Remain Silent..But I Didn't Have the Abillity", he has CD's and DVD's out and has won a Grammy. We first saw hom on Comedy Central in the Blue Collar group performances.
As I mentioned this crowd was quite wild. Ron actually had a guy in the front tossed out by security. Personally, there were several audience members I would love to have seen tossed. One aisle back from us some woman was screaming her lungs out, loud hoots every few minutes for no apparent reason. Every so often she would just scream "Sluggo" over and over. I believe this is one of Ron White's dogs. This crowd is a raucous crowd but this was the only audience member doing her own crazy thing. Maybe I'm may just be old and peevish but I want to hear the guy I came to see perform not some drunk broad.
I would strongly recomend seeing Ron White at some other Ampitheatre or perhaps the Hard Rock Cafe. Because this Ampitheatre is alongside the South Florida Fair it draws a really rough crowd. I know this is funny on some level. Here we are anything but rednecks, coming to see a show about rednecks, being performed by one of the four Foxworth Blue Collar Comedy Tour (all about rednecks) but not wanting to be in amongst a crowd of rednecks. The bottom line is I would actually suggest staying home and watching him on your own jumbo television. For $125.00 we had one hour of entertainment, on a television.
He performs next in Michigan, then California. You can go to his site to see his tour schedule.

Post a CommentRon White is one of my favorite comedians, but I'd watch him on TV before paying $125 to put up with obnoxious drunks!
sorry you had a bad time. well written. i subscribed to you wonderful work you have.
Sounds awful. Sorry you had the experience.
Ha! I liked "vomiety" better. Sounds like a bad attempt at stand-up. Yeah... if I were going to shell out that much money, I'd want the whole crew - Ron, Bill, Larry and Jeff.
Sorry you went through all that trouble--your right thogh vomedy is better seen at home on a Television set
I hope others pay heed and don't waste their time or money.
I didn't enjoy him $125 worth-it's alesson learned-I'll stick to staying in the comfort of my home and watching this stuff
too bad they just didn't have him come on first, like when I saw Bill Mahre and Jon Stewart......but at least you did enjoy who you came to see....:) hope you both are feeling better now
yes big waste
So sorry you had such a terrible experience. How awful to pay that kind of money and end up with a sense of wasting money. You wrote very well about that experience, though.
