RONALDO: SPITTING in the WIND

A Frustrated Cristiano Ronaldo Lashes Out After Portugal Lose to Spain

johnludden.webs.com:
As another world cup ends without Cristiano Ronaldo making any lasting impression the Portuguese Captain failed to hide his frustration both during and after their defeat by fierce Iberian rivals Spain. At the final whistle on leaving the field a furious Ronaldo spat blatantly in the direction of a nearby cameraman.
His bad mood showed no sign of abating later in the mixed zone, for when asked to comment on the defeat he replied '˜'How do I explain Portugal's elimination? Talk to Carlos Queiroz'˜.
Despite a first round, seven goal rout of North Korea, Portugal's world cup has been a distinctly low key affair. Come the knockout stages and Queiroz's tactical ploy against a hugely talented '˜pass till you drop' Spain appeared to be play for penalties. Much to the frustration of his Captain whom found himself wholly unable to make any kind of impact.
Forced instead to fight a lone battle as his ten remaining team-mates performed a brave but totally negative, defensive, rearguard action. One that in the end proved fruitless when on 63 minutes the Portuguese finally capitulated as the forever-patient European champions broke through with a David Villa goal.
Ronaldo's close relationship with Carlos Queiroz, one that blossomed after his Father's death during his Manchester United days, will now be severely tested. Not adverse to a decent strop when the mood arises the temperamental Ronaldo, never the best of losers may well already be regretting hanging Queiroz out to dry.
Ronaldo's new club manager at Real Madrid Jose Mourinho acted swiftly to supports his star player and dismissed all criticism aimed towards him.
'˜I refused a lot of offers to comment on the World Cup and i don't like to poke my nose in when i am not invited to, but because he is my player, i have the right to make one simple comment. In my teams when we win we all win, when we lose, i lose. Spain won the game simply because they were the better team'˜.
Wise words from the '˜Special One', but one can only wonder whether the Bernabeu will be big enough for these two super ego's when they come together in Madrid this season?
