Rosie Live Canceled After Just One Episode

The New Live Variety Show Hosted by Rosie O'Donnell was Canceled After Just One Episode

Rosie O'Donnell was trying to make a huge come-back with a 1970's style variety show in primetime, and debuted the new show the day before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, the show didn't impress as much as it needed to, and NBC isn't going to be picking up the show for any new episodes. As reported by CNN's Showbiz Tonight this morning, AJ Hammer claims the show "tanked" and was "so terrible in ratings" that it just didn't stand a chance.

The show was trying to put former talk-show host and actress Rosie O'Donnell back in primetime, and the special had a number of musical numbers as well as special guests intended to provide an unusual combination of acts to bring a new type of variety show to the small screen. It didn't seem to work all that well though, and even though their were plans for more episodes of Rosie Live in the future, those plans have been scrapped, and the show has been canceled after just one episode.

A few years ago, Rosie O'Donnell was one of the queens of daytime television, often noticed as the "nice girl" of television, when she hosted the Rosie O'Donnell show. She always had a lot of talent, but when ratings started to suffer on that show, she moved on, and eventually ended up as a co-host on The View. It probably didn't help that her reputation in the business took a hit on that show, and another one when she went head-to-head with public (and tabloid) arguments with Donald Trump.

For now though, Rosie Live is off the air, and maybe it will be re-tooled in the future, and re-surface in a different format, but it doesn't seem like Rosie O'Donnell doing a variety show is going to bring in a lot of the necessary ratings to warrant a primetime slot.

Rosie is not one of my favorites. It wouldn't bother me if she went away for good.

Not a big fan of Miss Rosie so no tragedy for me. Nice report.

too bad for Rosie, she just can't seem to pick herself back up again, can she?

Television isn't the way to go. She should have revamped her stand-up act and started touring again.

I miss the variety shows, but haven't missed Rosie since she left The View. IMHO, she has evolved from a woman worthy of respect when she would candidly express her opinions to a female gladiator who thrusts and parries with her words.

Good report. I miss the old variety shows, although I go back to the shows of the sixties.
