Talk show host Rosie O'Donnell is defending Alec Baldwin's phone tirade against his daughter. The View star says she's lost her temper with her children.

"I have to admit I have cursed at my kids sometimes. Honestly, you know, I'm like get the (expletive)."

The comment elicited laughter and commiseration by The View's mostly female live studio audience.

Last week TMZ published a tape of Baldwin berating his 11-year-old daughter for not answering her phone.

In the recording the actor called his only child "a rude, thoughtless little pig" He also hurled insults at Kim Basinger, the child's mother, complaining that the Oscar winning actress had no control over the youth.

The expletive strewn message eventually ended when Baldwin said he was going to fly to California to straighten his daughter out.

O'Donnell says that Baldwin is the victim in this situation.

"He's very much of a tortured father who feels alienated from his own child. When he was doing Broadway he flew out one day a week. He's trying to connect to this kid."

She continued, "(Basinger) defies a lot of court orders for him to visit the child, which I think is making him crazy. Not that that's an excuse. He actually did go to therapy. All the things that Kim asked him to do, he did. He went to anger management, He went to - but if she - (Basinger) defied all the court orders."

Baldwin is currently pursuing legal action to see who leaked the recording to the online gossip column. The actor has intimated that Basinger is responsible by saying that "certain people" will got any lengths to embarrass him and "disrupt" his relationship with his daughter

A Los Angeles County Court Commissioner has temporarily banned Baldwin from having any contact with his the child. Baldwin's permanent visitation rights are set to be decided during a May 4 court date.

View co-host Elizabeth Hassbleback countered Rosie's position by saying, "Hearing something like that from your father could be potentially the worst thing you could ever hear."

Baldwin posted a statement on his website apologizing for his outburst and saying their was much more to the situation than the public had been lead to believe. The Oscar winner plans to write a book detailing his side of the story.

Since their 2002 divorce Basinger and Baldwin have been embroiled in numerous legal battles over the Ireland Baldwin.

I saw the show and I can't say that she agreed with him. Yes, she said she has yelled at her kids and has lost her temper. Yet, I never heard her agree with anything he said. The View just gave him a chance to speak, and speak he did. Personally, I think he may have made things worse for himself.

That woman should not be a parent. Ridiculous to think this is okay.

If President Bush was recorded calling his daughters "...thoughtless little pigs..." Rosie would be the 1st in line to criticize him...

It makes me sick to my stomach to think of Rosie's children cowing to her...she is an imposing, intimidating SCARY figure to many adults! Can you imagine being her child??? And an adopted child? MOMMY DEAREST all over again! At least Angie J.L, seems to be a loving mother to the kids she's collecting like dolls.

I don't know when I have been so upset about the lack of professionalism, decency, respect - the shameless exploitation of an innocent child - the media will go to for ratings.

The harm of Alec Baldwin's phone tirade to his daughter is only outdone by his opposition in this nasty, protracted custody battle who released it, and the media who have aired every single word of it, over and over. Fox's Inside Edition brought on their "expert" psychologist to explain the permanent lifelong damage the phone call will do to this child. How can they then air those words knowingly contributing to, and exacerbating publicly the abuse already experienced by this child? Replaying it is like repeatedly violating and flagging this vulnerable child in the public square. What happened to not releasing victims' names??? What happened to any decorum whatsoever? Sweeps week sweeps it all away!

There is nothing "newsworthy" or justifiable as the public's right to know, in the contents of this ta

If Kim was so concerned about her daughter she should of taken the tape to the courts INSTEAD of leaking it to the press! Not only is this kid a pawn in her parents mess, she has now been embarrassed in front of her peers. I can understand Alec being upset because if you "survived" raising a teen you KNOW how they can try your patience. I would not have used the words Alec used BUT I would of gotten my point across to my kid that I am not one of her peers that she can simply brush off anytime she wants too

I've lost my temper and yes, used some cuss words with my kids. I NEVER called my children rude, thoughtless little pigs, or any other self-esteem reducing term. Nor, was I ever called anything like that by my parents. I feel sorry for Rosie's kids if she thinks this was just a small case of losing one's temper, while blaming it on a bad divorce. Why is it the children always have to be the ones that suffer in a brutal battle of the sexes?

Losing one's temper and being downright disrespectful are two different things. I think that maybe he should have let it be-call his lawyer-and prevent making matters worse. I feel bad that he is feeling alienated, but he was downright cruel.
