Rosie O'Donnell Leaving the View After on Air Blow Up

People Magazineis reporting that Rosie O'Donnell will not be returning to The View. After a tumultuous run, Rosie O'Donnell has decided she will leave the hit talk show a month ahead of schedule. Monday is set to be her last day. The announcement comes on the heels of O'Donnell's latest blow up with co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck.

In a statement printed on People's website Brian Frons, president of ABC Daytime announced. "We had hoped that Rosie would be with us until the end of her contract three weeks from now, but Rosie has informed us that she would like an early leave. Therefore, we part ways, thank her for her tremendous contribution to The View and wish her well."

Hasselbeck, a staunch conservative, was harranged by O'Donnell for not defending O'Donnell after she was attacked by conservative critics who suggested the liberal O'Donnell did not support U. S. troops.

After Wednesday's blow up, Rosie took a preplanned day off to celebrate partner Kelli Carpenter's birthday. Before she announced the decision fans used Rosie's blog to question the candid celeb about her plans for the future.

A fan named donna wrote, "Is there any possibility you will be staying on with the view?"

Rose responded with,

"when painting
there is a point
u must step away from the canvas
as the work
is done

anymore would take away"

A fan named Judy wanted to know if Rosie was okay.

Rosie said,

"i am sad judy
so sad

but i will b ok?"

The Washington Post quoted a statement issued by O'Donnell which said she had good feelings about her time at the daytime hit

"It's been an amazing year and I love all three women." -- referring to co-hosts Barbara Walters, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar.

Barbara Walters, producer and creator of the show responded in kind. "I brought Rosie to the show. Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at The View I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change. "

On "View" Rosie was right, but people hate her guts because she's so overbearing. Elizabeth was wrong, but since she got shouted down a lot of folks sided with her. I think they both deserve a future career in small-town talk radio (perhaps traffic reporters) in Keokuk.

Oh, sorry - I forgot to say good areticle! Gave you a 5 star

Her views may have a place, but I don't think that show is the place. She would do well in certain venues though. I don;t think she can try to take on jobs that require her to act like her persona on her Rosie ODonnell show from ten years ago and she needs something that is tolerant of her views as expressed now

I can't say I'm upset that Rosie's moving on. I too get tired of her tirades.

Linda, did you happen to hear Rosie yelling when Elizabeth was trying to answer her question?????

  • Suzanne A5/28/2007

Rosie is a nut. She takes everything out of proprotion and likes to yell, and overtalk people so that even when they try to respond, they can't get a word in edgewise. Can't wait to see who her replacement is!

    Good riddance!

I actually like Rosie, I like that she isn't afraid to speak her mind. Elizabeth was in the wrong on this one, it looked to me like she tried to get Rosie upset. I wonder if the whole year was leading up to something like this and they just had Rosie on for a ratings boost?
