Roy Halladay Pitches No Hitter in Post Season Encore

Halladay Tosses His Second No Hitter This Year in Post Season Debut

Roy Halladay pitched a perfect game in the regular season. He went 21-10 with a 2.44 earned run average in the regular season. 2010 was Haladay's third 20 win season in a 13 year major league career. What does Roy do in his post season debut? Halladay does an encore, pitching another no hitter. This one was nearly perfect except for a full count walk to Jay Bruce.

Halladay became the first pitcher to hurl a no hitter in the post season since Dan Larson pitched a perfect game in the 1956 World Series. Roy is the first pitcher to toss a no hitter in the Divisional Playoffs. "Halladay became the fifth pitcher to throw two no-hitters in the same year." Roy is the first to pitch two in the same year since Nolan Ryan did the feat in 1973.

Roy Halladay made the best of his post season debut. He pitched a no hitter, he hurled a complete game shut out and he captured the win and helped the Philadelphia Phillies take a 1-0 lead in their Divisional Series with the Cincinnati Reds. Roy also contributed at the plate going 1 for 3 for the game. He drove in a run and scored a run in the four nothing Phillies win.

Halladay is in the running for the National League Cy Young. He was an All-Star this season and played in the All-Star game. Roy has five All-Star appearances on his resume. Obviously he would like to add some rings to his collection of awards. Halladay and his Philadelphia Phillies teammates took one small but historic step toward those goals today. Philadelphia still has a long way to go, as they need ten more wins to capture a second World Championship in the last three seasons.
