Residents of Royal Oak and nearby communities may celebrate the Labor Day weekend at at the Arts, Beats & Eats festival.

The event, on Woodward Avenue in downtown Royal Oak, runs from Friday, Sept. 3, through Monday, Sept. 6.

As the name implies, local and regional artists, musicians and cooks/chefs have opportunities to show off their talents and their works.

After a steaming hot summer, cooler temperatures are on the way. Forecasts call for high temps in the low 80s on Friday, in the middle 70s on Saturday, down to the fall-like middle 60s on Sunday, and back into the 70s on Labor Day.

Organizers of the formerly free festival have added a $3 admission fee but have pledged to balance the extra expense with lower costs for parking, food and beverage items. Admission remains free on Friday.

Musical performances will take place on no less than five stages, and special activities are offered to keep children occupied.
