Royal Oak weekend starts hot, then cools a bit

Royal Oak residents will encounter a hot one on Friday, June 18, with the forecast for a high temperature of 88 degrees. This might be a good day to enjoy the air-conditioned comfort of the Leo Mahany/Harold Meininger Senior Community Center at 3500 Marais Ave., where a spaghetti dinner from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. will raise funds for nutrition programs. Tickets are $5 in advance, $6 at the door.

Royal Oak's thermometer should stay at around the same level on Saturday, June 19, when the high temperature is predicted to reach 89 degrees. With the warm temperatures encouraging outdoor wandering, a $39 fee entitles downtown visitors to participate in the Culinary Escapes Food Tour, a guided tasting tour with samples from nine participating establishments: Farmers Market, Superior Fish, Memphis Smoke, Vintner's Cellar, Goldfish Tea, Cafe Muse, Pizza Paesano, Gayle's Chocolates and Hermann 's Bakery.

Forecasts call for Royal Oak temps to dip into the low 80s on Sunday, with the lower temperatures continuing into early next week.
