Royal Oak Will Require Permits to Park on Many Residential Streets

Mark Vansetti
If you're wondering why there are temporary signs being put on your street, indicating that parking is no longer allowed without a permit, it will only last through Labor Day weekend. As everyone knows by now, the Arts, Beats and Eats Festival is going to take over downtown Royal Oak and the City has put up the signs in response to the concerns of residents that 1000's will take to the residential streets to find parking.

The City sent over 3,000 households a blue parking pass that can be cut in half and used to legally park two cars on your street, which is typed on the pass. Parking on the street without a pass will result in a $50 fine and the car may even be towed. The area where parking will not be allowed without a permit is a large one, stretching from 10 Mile Road to Catalpa and from Woodward to Gainsborough. That's a perimeter of over 5.7 miles.
