Not all Oriental or Asian restaurants are created equal. One never knows what the doorbell might bring when ordering for the first time. This article is a review of Royal Stix Japanese Steak House, Sushi Bar, Thai & Asian Bistro-long name. They offer a wide variety of cooking styles!

The Royal Stix is located in the Kroger Shopping Center at 805 South Glynn Street (#141). They are open Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm and Friday through Saturday 11:00 am - 10:30 pm. You can dine in, take our or get delivery, within the delivery area, with a minimum order of$15.00.

Our first delivery order arrived hot and everything was fresh. The little packets that accompanied the order included a Crab Rangoon and a Spring Roll, along with the appropriate sauces and a fortune cookie. The General Tso's was excellent and the Fried Rice was perfect. The Mongolian Beef was yummy, the Sweet and Sour Chicken was crisp and the Pan Fried Dumplings disappeared so fast, I almost didn't get one. The fried items were not grease soaked, as we have experienced with some Oriental or Asian restaurants. Our second delivery order was equally good-although my fortune cookie was empty. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I have a friend who is a Sashimi nut, so we grabbed a few others and went in for lunch one afternoon. For those of you who are confused about the difference between Sushi and Sashimi, here are the definitions: Sushi is cold cooked rice dressed with vinegar, shaped into bite-sized pieces and topped with raw or cooked fish, or formed into a roll with fish, egg, or vegetables and wrapped in seaweed. (You can find Sushi rice and Nori (seaweed) wraps in upscale grocery stores such as Publix, if you want to make your own.) It is sometimes referred to as "sticky" rice. Sashimi is completely different. It is very thin bite-size slices of fresh raw fish, traditionally served with soy sauce and wasabi (wasabi is hot, hot, hot sauce). My friend was going to be a good test as Sashimi-she says-is awful, if it isn't fresh.

The interior was clean and attractive and the smells made everyone hungry. We found that, if you eat in, your meal will include things such as soup that are not included with delivery orders. They also have some dishes that they grill on a hibachi at your table. Again, the food was good and abundant. The Sashimi (and the Sushi) garnered an okay, but not great, from my friend. Service was friendly and timely.

The average lunch item price on the Royal Stix menu is $6.50 and dinners range from $8.50 -$30.00 (Whole Beijing Duck). These prices are reasonable and in line with other local restaurants. The size of the menu and the variety of cuisines helps ensure everyone gets something they like. I have a couple relatives who are fans of Thai and about to visit me. I will definitely take them there.
If you are into the concept of yin and yang, you may want to try the divided plate dinner of Phoenix and Dragon. It is spicy, but then isn't life supposed to be full of flavor?
