Circuit City laid off approximately 3400 of their higher-paid associates in order to cut costs. Those positions will be re-staffed with new lower paid associates. In an effort to not cut costs Circuit City will be purchasing all new uniforms for all store associates.

It's extremely common for comics to write similar jokes independently. When the stories broke about the pedophilic priest many comics came up with the same variations of "hey, why didn't they abuse me?" It was just very obvious punch line.
