Rudy Giuliani Could Run for President in 2012 Against Sarah Palin

Rudy Giuliani may run for president in 2012, but it may be contingent on Sarah Palin. It seems Giuliani thinks Palin running for president in 2012 would actually improve his chances on the ballot, and that it could end up helping his campaign. It's an odd development in the political race that could soon consume the whole Republican Party, and it certainly would make things interesting when it comes down to the Republican nomination.

CNN reported Giuliani talked with Piers Morgan in an interview that would be airing on his show Monday. That episode of "Piers Morgan Tonight" will be on CNN at 9 p.m. EST this Monday, and could shed a lot of light on what the plans of Giuliani will be in the coming years. It definitely made his intent to run for president very obvious, especially if the setting and circumstances were good enough to give him a chance at actually winning the Republican nomination.

Giuliani also ran for the 2008 Republican nomination but ended up pulling out of the primary before it actually came down to a vote against Sen. John McCain. That was probably the smart move for him at the time, but maybe now he would actually find enough support form Republican voters that he could make a serious run at the White House in the 2012 elections. It seems now though, that it may depend more on how many candidates decide to enter the fray, and less about whether he wants to toss his hat in the ring.

Giuliani told Morgan that, "The more Republicans in which I can show a contrast, probably the better chance, the better chance that I have." He also made the point that if Palin was to run for the 2012 GOP nomination that it would show Giuliani as more of a moderate Republican, possibly garnering him even more support in the election than he would find if Palin decided not to run. From the excerpts released by CNN, it is really starting to sound like Giuliani wants Palin to run for President in 2012 because then he would not only have an excuse to run, but a rallying cry for his supporters.

With no real frontrunner in the Republican Party to try to run against President Barack Obama's attempt at re-election, it could be a wide open playing field for any Republican that is well known. It's way too early to predict if Giuliani has a good chance to win the election, let alone the Republican nomination, but he appears to be putting his first toe in the water to see if the reception is welcoming.
