Rudy Giuliani on Good Morning America: Let's Give Rudy a Break

Rudy Giuliani Did Not Forget 9/11

Mary Zeiher
Rudy Giuliani, former New York City Mayor, was on Good Morning America yesterday morning and many are saying that he 'forgot' about the 9/11 New York city attacks. Rudy Giuliani actually said to George Stephanopoulos, "we had no domestic attacks under Bush -- we've had one under Obama."

Let's give Rudy a break here.

He had already been on Morning Joe and Fox and Friends before he took to the stage on Good Morning America to hold the interview with George Stephanopoulos. Rudy Giuliani had already discussed this topic on both the other shows and he simply shortened his answer, out of context, to George Stephanopoulos.

Robert Gibbs, White House Press Secretary said of the Giuliani interview, "There were a number of things that didn't quite seem to jive with the better part of reality. I think he mentioned there not being any domestic terror attacks in the previous administration...It's interesting that the mayor of New York had forgotten that."

Rudy Giuliani meant that following the 9/11 attacks there were not any further incidents of terrorism on American soil under the Bush administration. In that time of anger and fear, many Americans feared additional attacks and they did not occur. As a spokesman for Rudy Giuliani clarified later, "the remark didn't come across as it was intended" and that Rudy Giuliani was "clearly talking post-9/11 with regards to Islamic terrorist attacks on our soil."

No Rudy Giuliani did not forget 9/11 and the horrible loss of life on that fateful day. Rudy is known as "America's Mayor", so noted by Oprah Winfrey on September 23rd, 2001 at a 9/11 memorial service at Yankee Stadium. Rudy Giuliani led New York City with strength through those dark days after the 9/11 attack. He said, "Tomorrow New York is going to be here. And we're going to rebuild, and we're going to be stronger than we were before...I want the people of New York to be an example to the rest of the country, and the rest of the world, that terrorism can't stop us."

Time magazine named Rudy Giuliani Person of the Year on December 24, 2001. And Rudy Giuliani was granted an honorary knighthood for his leadership shown in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on February 13th, 2002.

So let's give Rudy a break here in the reaction to his comments on one morning show.

And to further clarify, when Rudy Giuliani stated that there had been one attack under the Obama administration, he was referring to the shooting at Fort Hood allegedly done by Major Nidal Hasan. He was not referring to the failed incident of Christmas Day by Umar Farouq Abdulmutallab.

Rudy Giuliani joins a stream of people that have come forth since the failed Christmas Day incident stating that the Obama administration has not done enough to keep America safe from the War on Terror.

You are absolutely delusional, Mary Zeiher. You are revisionist and frankly, very scary.

He said *exactly* what he wanted to say. He wants to get the soundbite in the head of the sheep so that in a couple of years, they forget that W was the president during 9/11. You know it's true. You're just carrying water for them.

    Sad.

giuliani of the dead eyes. his smile is all teeth. he is loyal only to rudy. ask his kids but don't bother asking Donna Hanover; she has too much class.
don't hate poor rudy. the deepest cut is to ignore him.
on September 11, 2001 he was scurrying away from the attacked towers as fast as his little penguin feet would carry him.
but for bernie kerrick we just might know about this farce called rudy.
it was kerrick informed him his actions would bomb in the theater of public opinion. then did he huff & puff and pretend to be the mayor.

he was the most divisive mayor in living memory.

It's obvious Rudy Giuliani didn't forget, he just chose not to remember which is known as lying.

"Rudy Giuliani meant that following the 9/11 attacks there were not any further incidents of terrorism on American soil under the Bush administration."

Did you forget the shoe bombing? What about anthrax?

Mary Zeiher, you are a joke. Please ctrl alt delete and soak your computer in a tub of water.

Rudy is an opportunistic dirt bag just like Cheney and Rove. I'm a republican and do not fault Bush because he was too stupid. Obama is just an intelligent normal human that seized on a very stupid party. Get back to intelligence, not money you foolish retards.

Lady, you're full of it. Rudy deserves no break when he criticizes the President regarding national security and then supports the previous administration in the manner he did. Matt covered it, you're both "wretched liars".

  • Matt1/9/2010

There were plenty of other attacks -- anthrax comes immediately to mind. You and Giuliani are both wretched liars.

My comment on Rudy's remarks on the 1-07-10 episode of GMA is simple. He is full of shit! As if I didn't anticipate what would flow from his mouth when I saw his overstuffed frame. Fortunately I didn't was time and energy listing to him because the minute he appeared on the screen off the TV went. Thank thee for remote control.

Except even with his spokesperson's clarification, he's still wrong. There were many cases of domestic Islamic terrorism in the United States under George Bush.

So, let's not give Rudy a break. Given his repeated use of these revisionistic comments and his complete flip on the the use of civilian courts to try terrorists now that it's being done under a Democratic administration, let's call Giuliani what he is: a partisan fearmonger.

Wow. I have some swampland available for sale...you interested? How about the Brooklyn Bridge? Talk about naive....Rudy is about the third GOP talking head to make the same claim, including Dana Perino. It's a concerted effort to try and rewrite history for this country's seemingly endless supply of uneducated rubes. The GOP has no record to stand on at this point, and they know it, that's why they tell one lie after another....no terrorist attacks, death panels, Obama birth certificate, the census, and on and on and on.
