Formed in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Rufio, made up of Scott, Clark, Jon, and Mike, began playing together in high School. The band gathered a loyal West Coast following from file-sharing (the thing you're most likely doing as you read this), inked a deal with Nitro, and set out on tour with the likes of Strung Out, Taking Back Sunday, and The Ataris. All of which helped land them at Chain.
Your Name In Lights took the first spot of the night, sticking mostly with clangy guitar driven songs. Formed only in December of last year, their inexperience shows a bit with their live show, sound, and songs. Although, it's not a bad sized audience for a first national tour.
Following YNIL, was probably was the coolest yet funniest of the sights and sounds of the night. Billed as Terminal, singer/guitarist Travis Bryant found himself as a solo act for this and all of the Terminal shows in the near future. During the Rufio tour, Bryant's band decided to part ways with Terminal, leaving Bryant in a difficult position. Needless to say, he was there by himself playing songs acousticly and making people laugh with him at the same time. Clark and Mike of Rufio helped him out with the last Terminal song of the set.
The Spill Canvas. A name you should remember? We'll have to wait to see, but many of the fans at the show were there because of The Spill Canvas, screaming back every word to singer/guitarist Nick Thomas. It's not hard to see why people know them, as they are fastly approaching 1 million plays on Purevolume. If you like Coheed and Cambria, Circa Survive, or Saves The Day, this band is for you.
The main event: Rufio. Aged, matured, polished, but all in good ways. It was obvious from the first note of their opening song "Out of Control" that the band is tighter and more "in the pocket" now than they ever have been. They have moved into "pro band" status. Just a hit song away from super-stardom, Rufio isn't the type of band to go out and write that song. They seem very happy with where they are at. The fans are happy where they are at too, erupting on every song. Rufio had a strong set featuring favorites like, "Science Fiction" and "White Lights." Pulling from their three full length CDs, the band gave an inspiring performance with their hour and fifteen minute (give or take) long set. The tour is in support of their recent release, The Comfort of Home, however, they pulled out "Above Me" for the closing song, a favorite off of 2001's Perhaps, I Suppose. It wouldn't be complete without an encore. Their cover of Madonna's "Like A Prayer" was their song of choice to end the evening.
