House arrest is expensive. Depending on where you live at it can cost you between $5 and $20 a day. It could be more in other areas. So on average; be prepared to pay between $150 and $620 per month while you are on House Arrest. This is in addition to regular probation fees, court costs, fines, or any restitution payments that you also have to pay.
The monitoring system and ankle bracelet. Although the exact system used will vary from place to place, the ankle bracelet is relatively small and will fit under your clothes. For the ankle bracelet, the band is 1 inch and the monitoring device is smaller than a cell phone. The monitoring system that is hooked up in your house is about the size of a cordless phone base. The portable part that you need to take with you everywhere that you go is the size of a small walkie-talkie.
The rules are fairly basic and simple. You cannot leave your house unless you get previous authorization. You have to turn in a weekly schedule, which will either be approved or denied. When filling out the schedule you need to include driving time in you leaving and returning times. So for example if you work from 8 am to 4 pm you will want to leave yourself enough time to get there and home. You would put 7:30 am as a leaving time and 4:30 pm as a returning time if it takes you a half hour to get to work. Some places have a limit on the amount of hours that you work.
Other than going to work other trips that are allowed as long as they are previously approved are doctors' visits, court dates, and trips to see your probation officer. If you are married, your spouse must do the grocery shopping. However if you are the head of household you will be allotted time to go grocery shopping and doctor visits for your children. The exact rules will vary from one area to another.

BTW... House arrest IS VERY expensive. :(
I have been just put on SCRAM,and house arrest for 180 days, but have to do so in the county that I received my charges, or spend 90 days in jail. I am confused as to why this is so. Especially when my HOME is in the next county over. Why can I not be allowed to take house arrest in my own home? What if I lived in another state? I am confused. I am conteplating just doing the jail time, because this doesn't seem like a fair sentence. Can anyone help with this answer?
Kelle.. You should be assigned a probation officer that can answer all those questions for you. Each area is different so I can't say one way or another for sure. I know in my area you stay on house arrest until you pay and the fees continue to add up as well. Telling them you can't pat most likely isn't an option. They may look at your financial situation and lower it if it is not already set at the minimum.
thank u abby. so basically i pay or go to jail? or stay on it? will i get in more trouble ?what if i tell them i cant pay?
Kellie..The rules vary in different areas but around here if you don't pay it, you stay on house arrest until you do. You fees sound cheap. They can go up to over $600 a month here.
Erik.. The rules around here are a little different as well. There was not any restrictions on visitors.
Scott.. The distance varies. It should beep when you get out of range.

I am on house arrest right now.You can NOT have any guns, weapons,or drugs of any kind in your home.If your husband hunts he will have to take his guns and ammunition to a friends,it cant even be in the garage. There will be random checks,ANY time of day or NIGHT.I've had cops come for there check in's at 1am 3am noon,10pm ALL times, and it sucks when they wake up babies and other people in the home at those times.you can smoke cig's but thats it.There are random piss test which happens when you go in for your weekly check in/turn in sheculdes, and pay your dues. You are NOT allowed to have visitors while on house arrest, not the inmate nor anyone in the home.So this means if your roomate freind,son...ect is on house arrest you CANT have visitors at all either. If anyone elsehas any questons feel free to e-mail me at ewplastering@yahoo.com I've been on for a month and a half and have 8 months to go.
