It is imperative to get plenty of rest. The better rested you are, the more productive you are likely to be. If you can, get seven to eight hours of sleep a night. You should also take a five-minute break at least once every hour while working in your home office.
You must not fall asleep on the job, not even here. If you feel yourself nodding off at your desk, you should stand up for at least a few minutes. This often bails me out of losing too much time.
No distractions are to be allowed. You should eliminate sources of noise that are too loud. I sometimes turn off my radios and television while proofreading my article drafts.
It is necessary to stay busy at all times. If you have to wait a while for a Web page to load, you should do something productive such as writing down important information or cleaning up your office space.
Once you set a quota, you must follow through. My most pressing need is to write two articles almost every night before going to bed. I often have to will myself to write the second one, as I know that if I do not do it this one time, I might start doing that frequently and that is a no-no.
You should use as many shortcuts as you can. One thing you can do is abbreviate the words you write down for ideas. Another is to fully learn your keyboard functions so you can save time.
Good preparation is mandatory. Before you begin working, you must have everything you need on hand. If you are working on a project, you should write down all of your ideas and make sure you include all of them.
The job you do must be something you really want to do. It is vital to have passion for the work you opt to do at home.
You must learn from your mistakes. If you repeat them, you will only regress.
It is helpful to be comfortable. You should dress comfortably and keep your room as cool or warm as it must be.
You have learned the top work-from-home rules.
