If these rules are not followed, then you have already lost the tournament before it has begun. In this article, I want to go over those specific rules that you must follow. Let's begin.

One of the things at martial arts tournaments is performing katas. There are many forms of katas from traditional to free style. When you are performing katas at tournaments, these are the rules that you must follow. The first rule that you must follow when doing tournament katas is that you must always bow to the judges and say your name. This lets the judges know that you know that they are there and you are introducing yourself to them. The next thing that you want to do is you want to state the name of your martial art style and the name of the kata that you are performing. Katas have many different names and they will vary from what ever style of karate you are studying. After you have done this, you want to wait for the judges permission to begin.

Rules For Sparring

Another thing that you will see in tournaments is sparring. Sparring is the act of fighting another opponent. This may be full contact or it may padded. Here are the tournament rules to follow when you are fixing to spar. First you must always bow to the judge that will be watching over the match. The second thing you want to look out for when doing tournament sparring is that you want to watch your contact. Kicking or striking in prohibited places can be an automatic disqualification. You also want to make sure you stay inside of the ring. Going outside of the ring can cost you points and may also cost you the match.
