Some comments made by visitors to Phillip Zaroos' blog at Mlive.com have complained that the body of the lion looks too horse-like, and I agree.
Some slight adjustments to the body would have made it look much better. The designer was said to have only glanced at the original logo once or twice before coming up with the new one.
I really wish the color of blue was darker as I feel it would give the Lions more of a bold look, more manly, per se. One thing the Lions needed was an overhaul, even if it is just the logo.
The colors haven't changed. The silver helmets are back, but the lion has visited the stylist and received an upgrade. I find the changes subtle enough, without changing the "image" of the Detroit Lions, so in that aspect they have succeeded by keeping the branding nearly intact.
I don't find the changes will send the entire fan base headed to their malls and purchasing all new gear, but you will have many that just have to have the new and updated logo design on their gear for next season.
If you're like many other Detroit Lion fans, you hope this isn't the only overhaul done this offseason.

As a resident of the state of Michigan, I've gotta say - the Lions suck. Revamping their logo isn't really going to do anything for them, especially when, like you said, it looks like a horse. =]
Perhaps they should get off their lazy bums and do something rather than worry about a petty logo. Once the team starts winning again, then maybe I could see them having reason to revamp the logo... But, that's just me. =]
